i have a 96 superjet that seems to porpoise a lot. it has a pro-tec rideplate, a double scoop intake grate (solas) and a skat-trac impeller (pitch unknown) I am new to standups, so i was wondering if this was normal? It will take a while to get a smooth ride. I am wondering if there is a better setup or rideplate. any ideas? thanks!

Get a Worx ride plate and intake grate, and consider running a shortend handle pole to get your weight forward. More time on the ski and you will learn how to position your weight better and learn better throttle control. Welcome to the X and to the sport.

yep, most of that can be changed by you learning where to stand, and how to modulate the throttle.

after that, you can fine tune with the plate.

I agree with Keefer though, I like my shortened stock pole.
easy to do, and basically free, you need some glue or epoxy, and a saw, and about an hour.

figure its just the nature of a lightweight high tourqe water vehicle?
learn how to let off the throttle
oh and stop riding in a straight line

Don't do or buy anything.
Practice riding. Get your weight forward. Everyone porpoises when they are starting until you learn throttle/body position control. You can ride a stock ski without porpoising it, you already have an A/M rideplate (which will help) so DO NOT waste any more money on anything other than gas to practice with.

aqua what does it do to sand the bottom?

i sanded (removed any gloss) with 36 grit length wise on the bottom of my ski and it noticeably changed the handling. groupk even recommends it somewhere on their site. in the past i have waxed the bottom of my skis and have always noticed that the porpoising got worse. there were tests done on a sail boat also where after sanding the sailboat was averaging higher speeds. has to do with surface tension. you would think that having a nice slick surface would slip through the water better but that is not always the case. my riding partner also noticed an increase in handling when i did this....so no it is not just me.
