Super Jet SuperJet ride plate recommendations

So, I'm interested in getting a new ride plate- mine's stock right now. I'm 6'5" 210lbs, and I'm looking for a plate for my SJ 650.

I have the shorter Jet Dynamics plate on my 03 SJ, but I'm wondering if there isn't something better. The 03 seems to get unhooked pretty easily on high speed turns, and it makes me feel like I'm drifting like a "numba one stunna." Is there something that will help stay hooked up in turns, yet not negatively affect wake jumping and basic tricks?

Both skis have stock props, and aftermarket scoop-style intake grates, but I forget what brands. When I put the grate on the 650, cavitation dropped dramatically- I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks!

Rear sponsons can be a nice touch. I made my own set. They have worked and held up well. They only hang 1-1.25" below the bond line and are very easy to remove. They greatly improved hookup in the corners. I am running a Works Dominator Ride plate that is about +3, Destroyer front sponsons and my own rear sponsons. I have no need to remove the destroyers. The rear sponsons can be removed easily but I have no problems breaking them free (just like working around the fin on a wakeboard). The extended ride plate is easily swapped with a stocker if I have a need in the surf.

You're looking for something that will keep you hooked in turns but doesn't negatovely affect surf riding? I'd have to say tubbies. That may just be exactly what you're looking for. Check out the destroyers from blowsion. If you don't like it you can always unbolt them. The only skis I rode without tubbies was a SN and my 750sx and I really couldn't ride them. Hell my 08 has stock tubbies and destroyers on top

I've considered tubbies, but why are they so friggin expensive?

They have the market cornered. You could go with an older version or an off brand, but the ease of installation and ability to remove the destroyers makes them pretty cool. One nice thing about destroyers is that they cost $400 new, but they sell used for $300. Just save the box they came in, patch the holes on your ski, and sell them seperately when you are done.

Important to note, the back screw on the left destroyer will hit your b-pipe and damage it. If to do get destroyers, its not in the instructions, but be sure to cut the screws down.

Another down side to destroyers is they are heavy, so if the few extra pounds is a problem, get the other kind you glass in.

The destroyers helped my ski a lot. To can take corners and carve much harder now. They push against the water and keep the ski riding more level, which helps keep the chines in, the pump hooked up, and control and general.

However, I put my rear sponsons on before my destroyers and they helped a lot keeping the back end from sliding out. I made and installed them in about 2 hours total with about $20-30 in materials. If budget is a issue, start wih making a rear sponson set like mine, and get a used racing ride plate, before you invest in the destroyers. Aluminum plate would work too but I am more set up to work with fiberglass with the tools I have.

If you are going to be serious about racing and cornering in general, front sponsons are a must. They also give a bit more surface for a pop, so they are a necessary mod. Just saying that rear sponsons and a ride plate are cheap quick and easy place to start. If $400 is no object, then just get the destroyers and add rear sponsons later.
