Superjet not charging HELP!!!

Location

Ive got a 90' superjet with a 62t engine I built over winter. I bought a stator and flywheel from a guy on here over winter, and a new gel battery. SO, when I charge the battery before I ride and ride for 2-3 hours then check the voltage on the battery its a little over 11 volts! Then if I dont charge my battery every night, I get 2 days maybe a little more and my batteries dead! I sent the stator back and got another used one and a regulator,( used ) same problem! Ive check the voltage in the battery at idle and it slowly goes down??? Im ready to just part this thing out!!

Your voltage regulator is probably busted.
It causes the battery to slowly drain (couple days) and it won't charge it when the engine is running.

Disconnect the battery and measure the resistance between the positive and negative battery cable.
If it's less than a few kilo-ohms, the regulator is bad.
Pop open the ebox and replace it (the small piece with the two green wires and a couple others coming out)

I swapped out the regulator already once, I'm thinkin the charge coil is bad? I would buy a new regulator if I hadn't just bought one that was supposed to be good.

Thanks for the info I'm gonna get my meter out tomorrow and test that and the charge coil output.

Measure the resistance between positive and negative battery cable anyways (without the battery).
I would guess charge coil, but you say it drains the battery even when you're not riding - so you have a drain somewhere.

Oh I must have worded it wrong my batt only dies when I'm riding, its fine in the ski siting. I will test that tomorrow for sure thanks

Then your problem is the lighting coil.
You can open up the ebox and measure the resistance between the two green wires coming from the stator.
Post what that value is.

That resistance should be 1.14 - 1.40 Ohms. Measure the resistance from either green wire to ground. (You should see an open circuit here)
You can measure the AC voltage generated between the two green wires when you crank the engine. You should see 6 volts minimum.

Ok I put my ebox back together already so I didnt check the green to ground, but I switched back to my other voltage regulator and cleaned all the grounds. I checked the voltage at one of the green wires from the stator and it was putting out 2.3 volts? (AC with the engine running) and still not charging at the battery? I did check the voltage out of the regulator and it was 2.6 volts ??

You checked the regulator voltage at which wire? You need to measure red to ground.

The AC voltage from the lighting coil needs to be measured from one green wire to the other, not just one to ground.

I see, I measured the green wire wrong then, but yes I measured the red wire from the regulator to ground. Thanks for all the help too

You should be seeing quite a bit more than 2.6V out from the regulator.
Measure the resistance between the red wire and the black wire on the regulator.

I just measured the regulator I just took out and it not showing anything between the red and black wires? Im gonna take it out tomorrow, and after that Im pulling the ebox again and recheck the green wires.

Not measuring anything most likely indicates an open circuit (good).

Here's something to check without taking the ebox apart: with the ski running, measure battery voltage. It should be 13-14 volts

Yeah with my batt fully charged, the voltage doesnt change when I start it. Stays at 12.3volts. Im gonna order a new yamaha lighting coil I guess, sucks Ive been fighting this prob all season :( I think the pulser coil is week also due to the fact that when my batt gets under 12v it sounds like the ignition is breaking up too.

Hey guys, I know I'm a little late to this party. But poopski's issue feels exactly like mine. I have an '09 super jet. I don't think I'm handy enough to pull the engine to replace the stator though - is that what's required to replace the lighting coil?
