Super Jet Superjet, closed circut only?

I've always bought skis that are older than me, and I've gotten some amazing deals. I have some great skis but last season it seams like i destroyed all my runners. One shorted out and melted the wiring, one had a fitting break inside the wetpipe and i just got rid of all my 550s.
I am about to just get them all fixed up, sell them and buy a newer model. I want to be investing my money in fuel/oil and not parts and i want to spend time carving, not tinkering. ....

I've never been in the market for a new or newer ski, im always searching for an older model ski on the cheap and as i mentioned, I've come across CRAZY good deals cas i am patient.
Now i want something new BUT i hear conflicting comments on the newer SJ.

Some people say they are race/closed circuit only, others say they can be on public waters, others say you can get a certificate to ride on public water. ...

Which one is true and if the newer ones can't be registered, what year did that BULLSHIZZ start?
I live in the great country of Texas, if that makes any difference.

I'd call a few dealers and see what their stance is. I think you can get an IJSBA membership for under $50 which would allow you to meet the race use only clause. Some dealerships don't even bother.

Well i have called dealers and either i get mixed answers. Either the salesman is not knowledgeable, or whatever. Plus i wouldn't want a shady salesman to sell me an $8,000 ski and just tell me what i want to hear "it can be registered", only for me to get that license and find out i can't register it after all

My understanding is that you can buy them at the dealership in any state (Minus the republic of CA) Lic and registration should be handled at the dealer level regardless of how slimey your salesman is. So get yourself into a dealership and work your magical lowballing buyer powers! :)

Depends on your state. Yamaha makes the dealer give them your ijsba member number. I had my dealer sign a contract agreeing to refund the ski if it couldn't be registered in PA. When the paperwork gets to the state they probably have no idea what kind of ski it is and just issue a registration.

Do you have any advice on finding any great crate deals on crate units that didn't sell? I'm willing to travel, i just want a killer deal on a new unit, i don't care what year. Depending on price i may be able to do cash purchase

Not really, not sure were you could find a uncrated older ski or even a great deal on new one. Here there in demand so we sell for retail no problem. Best deal I would think is finding a used one that someone bought and didn't use much? I see them on c list sometimes. If you plan on doing mods to one best way to buy on is already modded.
