Just installed new crank and pistons...first few times it fired up and ran just fine... shut it off and tried again.. it acted like it wasnt firing until i let off the start button. Then boooom... it back fired like a frickin shot gun. Let it sit a while longer then started agian... runs like a top until you shut it off. Then acts like it wont fire until you let off the start button.. then it will either start or backfire. When it starts it seems to run fine.
I took flywheel back off and checked keyway and stator bolts. The timing is exactly where I had it. (made my own scratch marks) timing is set at stock arrow. Blue loctited both screws to make sure plate doesnt move. Torqued fly wheel bolt to 70 ft lbs. and put back together. Still same thing. At this point im thinking it stator... the thing ran fine before rebuilding. (beside a butt load of shrapnel in one cylinder from middle bearing coming apart).
One thing that happened before this was gas got left on overnight and filled crankcase. Some how gas got into the stator compartment. I found this out when i tore into it doing rebuild. When i popped off the flywheel cover out came a whole lotta gas. Whats crazy is it ran with gas in the flywheel compartment just fine the whole day until that afternoon when I realized something was seriously wrong because motor was starting to drag like it was seizing up.
This ski has been a very dependable ski up until now...and to top it all off. We were going on a trip to gulf shores to take skis in less than one week... been planning this trip for a year now...always wanted to ride in the ocean. I even had all my parts shipped last week asap so i could install by the weekend and try it out. Got engine back together today and now all this !!!!
Im about ready to throw this thing as far as I can right now... I guess its looking like the ski is not gonna make it to the ocean.
I would be grateful for any input .... Thanks in advance.
