You will run into little thiings on pre assembly for sure, I had a number of issues with mine. Be really carefull with the inserts and make sure they are clean before installing any fastner, anti seize is a good idea IMO... I did have some trouble with engiine location, it was a bit too close to the midshaft and I had to make some adjustments with the coupler and motor mounts to get it in proper positioning to bolt down. Part of that was due to the driveshaft coming thru the firewall a bit too much, in the end though its a great ski and I have no plans to buy anything else.

Glad to hear your happy with it Crab. Seems like nobody has complaints about any size Freak they have aside from a little leakage which all seem to get eventually.
Buy Yeah all those little alignment issues, installing fasteners etc is what I am worrying about! And it may become common sense as to where the engine location should be or how far it needs to be from the mid shaft, etc,.....but right now those things sound foreign to me!! (I am somewhat mechanically inclined but really don't know jet ski parts "lingo",.... yet!!) I've been riding for years off and on but just never had the need or desire to take my ski apart before and now I am regretting never tinkering around!! But I have been researching build posts and trying to figure out what this "is" or what "that" is,....but I am really starting to realize how clueless I am with jet skis,....although a LOT of things are finally starting to "click" after reading seeing pictures of what this or that actually is.
I AM trying though but still think I am better off paying someone on this deal since I want this ski to be mint. Only problem is the hull is so much to start with that it makes it harder to afford a complete running ski.

I know buying used would probably be my best bet,...and is still an option I am considering. But at the same time I would like to buy new and be the 1st owner and paint and turf to my liking (not that I couldn't just re-turf and/or paint a used boats of course),....but I would like to be part of the build process as well. Unfortunately there are no builders within a drivable distance that I could make the back and forth trip to so I will probably just have to drop it off and see it when it's done!

For what it's worth if I was just "redoing" my RN I would gladly take the job on myself and learn as I go,...but like I said if I am going to get a Freak,...I want it to be "BADASS"! And I do not have the skills to build/align/paint or turf a ski to make it that! LOL

The only other ski that really has my attention is the Preadator, I was very blown away with the ride.

I agree, I am so happy with my predator, I have yet to ride another ski that fits me as well as the predator. Although I have not been on a freak yet.

I had sent CJ555 a pm when he started this thread and he seems like a really cool guy, even knows some of my riding buddies from back in the day. I look forward to meeting and riding with him at some point.

That being said, I think that trying to find someone to build the ski AND trying to be involved in the build is a total pipe dream. I say this with no ill feelings or malice, but coming from someone who builds skis and cars, having someone watching only complicates things. Building an AM hull is a very time consuming process, and as air blair stated it is no money making venture, we all do it because we love it. I can easily spend 30-60 hours on a ski build depending on the ski and how involved the build is.

I am an Auto technician by trade so I have seen signs like this since I was old enough to read

Repair-shop-rates3.jpg

and usually chuckle, but the fact is they exist for a reason.

I am in no way trying to bash or make fun of CJ555, he has asked a question and by viewing this thread he has not found exactly what he is looking for, this may be because it may not exist. We are part of a very small and niche sport and we are apread across the world.

All that being said I still welcome CJ555 to come down and ride my ski to help him in his quest for picking an AM hull.

HAHA! I have seen that exact sign before Jon!! I didn't forget about you and/or the KRASH hulls! I was hoping to make it down to Daytona to Demo some skis but my riding buddy backed out so not sure if I want to make the trip down alone. With flight, hotel, and rental car it adds up to a lot of cash I could use for the build and parts I may need. No matter what though I do look forward to trying out the Krash hulls and riding with you Cape May guys soon.
And I know I would probably just be in the way during the build process!! But I really do want to learn and be an expert - or at least experienced- like most guys on this site seem to be. Really starting to hate this lack of knowledge thing! I am getting more and more into the sport and would like to try different parts, engines, pumps, and would like to know how to swap them out so I don't have to bug (or pay!) someone else every time. Plus I could see it being fun to work on my own ski and give me something to do in the winter during my slow months.
Either way I will be in touch soon,.... and maybe if I grow a set I'll even make the trip down and ride with you soon even though I have never considered riding after November!! LOL
I do have a lot of respect for you for riding year round though! Usually winter time for me is plowing snow, snowboarding, or house projects,.....jet skiing never even enters my thoughts! But you definitely have me thinking differently now.
Keep in touch

Making the trip to any Freeride is worth it Carm. You won't be able to ride as many different skis at one time otherwise. And daytona is the place.Allegiant Airlines has cheaper flights direct too.But by spending some $$$ to come down for a couple days, will save you a ton in the long run.

Come in for a couple days, someone will put you up and there are usually other riders also looking for roommates. You might even find someone around you that is coming by.Ssems like the Rad Dudes had a seat in their truck needing to be filled

Yeah I know Don,...I've seen it recommended it a lot here to make it down and demo some skis 1st. I still may come down even if just for an overnight or 2 day trip. I look forward to meeting everyone Ive talked to here and others as well of course,...but my buddy backing out at last the last minute did kinda ruin the excitement of the trip. He seems to be getting into the sport more as well but his priorities change on a daily basis!

Gotta love those freinds, I have learned to do my thing and if someone else follows then so be it. I consider Daytona a must attend event. I know there is a guy from the deptford area that is towing a trailer down with 5 or 6 skis, he may have room in the truck? I know a lot of the guys he is transporting for are flying down. If you join and post in South Jersey Freeriders on facebook you can get in touch with those guys.
