Super Jet Super jet will not turn over after I almost sunk her at lake of the ozzarks

Had a blast last weekend ripping around lake of the ozzarks, but my weekend ended when my ski started filling up with water. She seemed to be sitting a bit low so I put the bilge on, and was surprised how much water was coming out, especially since I put an epic scupper to help drain the majority of water. My buddy was riding her and she would not turn over. Turns out thre was a small washer stuck to the magnet on the scupper not allowing to to seal, and the ski started to fill up with water fast. My buddy and I swam her back and got her drained. Sure enough she took some water into the engine. I popped the plugs and turned the propeller by hand to her her drained first. But she would not turn over. I heard the starter solenoid clicking, but nothing else. I popped the flywheel cover off today to see if maybe the starter bendix was jammed, but it was well lubed and moving freely. This is the fist time I water logged a ski, and I know you want to get that water out soon. Any ideas on what I might be missing?

Did you try to turn it over with the plugs out? If so, then it not a hydro-lock problem. It's more likely electrical, especially if it's salt water.

Check for water in the ebox, shotty connections to the battery and started and similar such voltage issues.

Edit: NOT a hydrolock problem. Phone auto correct.

I had a Zip tie hold my Versi-plug open. I figured it was a hood seal or water cooling leaking.

Tried a different battery? Builge and constant trying to start will kill them fast.

If that does not help. Take a screwdriver and jump the 2 post on the noid and see if the motor will spin. You will get Sparks when you cross the post so be prepared the first time, it's normal.

yeah try another battery, do you have an electrical meter?
you could have just enough juice in the battery to activate your starter solenoid but not enough to actually turn it over, especially after running your bilge

water inside the starter? loose wire from battery to solenoid / or solenoid to starter. if you have an electrical meter you can find out in a few minutes

It's a tight squeeze with the exhaust in the way, I literally have my motor out sitting on a bench right now. It was (2) 12mm bolts and then it slides right out.

I have a funny feeling it's your starter relay though, the odds of the starter itself aren't as high as the relay. It can still make a click noise but not fully engage the contacts. If you have your meter handy still, open your electrical box inside the ski, with one meter lead on your negative battery terminal, check for 12v coming into the starter relay on the thick red wire, and then press the start button and make sure you have 12v coming out of it while your holding the button down

Survey says........ bad starter roller bearing. I had to pretty much pull the damn engine to get the stater out. Does anyone rebuild these? I think just the front roller bearing are bad; other wise it looks good.

Lol no way, your talking the bearing inside the starter like just behind the gear? That's exactly the issue that happened to mine I dropped it off today at a local place that rebuilds car starters / alternators, look in your phone book / yellow pages / online there will be lots who do and it's cheap. I'd have them rebuild the entire thing while it's out for that matter.


That's crazy! Except I put mine away last season with a bit of water in it I guess the oring was worn out and it seized up over the winter. Didn't think yours would do it that quick.
