Re-did my '90 SN SJ this winter. bumped up compression, ww cone, etc.
Now when I do tail stands, it sucks air and cavitates.
Actually it sucks air unless the boat is flat on top of the water
I did remove and reinstall grate and plate.
siliconed the plate but not the grate as there was no silicon on it to start with.
Should I pull the grate and try to silicon it back
or should I just get a new pump seal and install and then seal back the grate?
thanks!

Eh....it's normal for that to happen. The exhaust bubbles up into the pump cavity/intake and you cavitate.
That's why people get front exhausts.

yeah, but this is way worse than last fall.
maybe I damaged the seal/packing by removing and reinstalling the engine
or maybe it dry rotted over the winter?
once it sucks air, you literally have to lie on the hood to get it to pick up again. . .

XFT-Lou sealed up his plate on his SXR and it was amazing the ski wouldn’t go anywhere, we never seen this happen before. We pulled the silicone off and it was fine.

sounds like its time to order a pump seal/packing
and pull and inspect tunnel and shoe and replace seal

it will cavitate just taking off
from a stop unless I feather the throttle a little :261:
