Skill Level:
For a sub, you can be a total noob. They're easy.
For rolls, you better know your stuff. They're not so easy. And you won't be doing them on a 550 on flatwater.

Equipment: If you want to do more than one sub every 5 minutes, you might consider spending 30 bucks to install a bilge bump.

I saw you started another thread about footholds - they are super helpful for subs, stabs, or any jumping type maneuver. I found it hard to stay in the tray doing subs until I used glued on lifters, which worked pretty good; now I have footholds and there is no comparison.
My 2c is to go with the glue on lifters for a season and if you decide you really like freestyling buy a 701 Superjet and put in footholds.

Yep, glued on lifters will work fine for subs. I would just do that for now and save your money for a superjet fund for some day down the road. A sub is more in your legs than your arms. Basically you just do a little hop and pull up with your legs as you push the bars forward.
I don't do them anymore......they hurt. I think I'm getting old.

Can you glue the lifters onto turf? Or does it need to be to the hull itself?
