Super Jet Structural integrity and hull mods ( How are your cut hulls holding up )

well...... considering a project ......... well another project. Question is : assuming the proper materials are used with proper prep . Will a stock SMC hull gain structural integrity thru nose mods , tail rocker etc. or will it loose integrity . How are your cut hulls holding up ?

Mine held up great (in those areas). I cut my hull shorter in 2007 and had already reinforced the hull sides in the back two years prior to that. Since 2007, I put countless failed rolls and flips on that hull (and a few complete ones).
The hull had plenty of cracks around the hood seal area, the rails, and the nose, but absolutely none in the back.

I think the key is epoxy resin? but I am not a composite guru... (heck, I think "novice" may be overstating my knowledge)

Don't do it , it will fall apart like paper mach'e

How do you come to that conclusion?

If all the prep and layup work is done properly the positive or negative margins will depend entirely on how the form is shaped and how much/what kind of material is used. A single layer of 17oz biax laid on top of a big hole won't hold up very well, 5-10 layers of carbon scarfed in properly over the same hole will be stronger and stiffer than stock. Additionally, sharp corners in high stress areas are more prone to cracking than smooth transitions with the same amount of material. The last thing to consider is generally not an issue for us but a possibility. If you modify or repair an area and go WAY overkill, you start running into stiffness problems and the surrounding area will start cracking.

I had the same fears when I first started to play with resins.
I must say that my hull has survived quite well and all the places that I cut and reglassed still look good.

I recently busted off the nose (again), my repair stayed intact but the hull broke further back.

I think he's joking but I've seen a bottom half go completely soft before. Luckily it was just an x2.

Makes sense then. I thought WFO did some major modifications to his X2 but wasn't sure if it fell apart on him.

That image above haunts me... :puke:

I still don't know how Ronnymac managed to make her look hot in the photo here:
http://jetpilot.com/pwc/blog-article/news/601/

He must have magic powers or be a photoshop wizard but he actually manages to make her look hot. I question my sanity looking at that picture.

I posted that on the Daytona pic thread and no one even understood what the hell I was talking about.

I understood completely! I was very intrigued and went in for a closer look...oh how I regretted that decision. All the power to her but I'll politely pass.

she was worse up close AND farther away in person. Ronny did some work on the pic, no matter what he says. unless she has a 20year younger twin.

smc when cracked and exposed to water will soften over time. just like particle board and its important to cut all the rot out and seal it all up when you go back together.

Be nice Boys that's someones mother ...... she looks a little tired , and she looks like she is trying to hard ....... However , I do like them a little on the trashy side .

I guess the verdict is :

1. She is not hot unless you see her thru Ronnie Macs glasses .

2 . Mods reenforced properly are stronger than the stock SMC .

3. Get Ronnie to shoot your ski and post it when you decide to sell it .

With those stretch-marks she should be in the Octomom category.
I thought Lollypops day shift was out and about drumming up business.
Yep, she was rough.

You should all be ashamed of youselves. ALL hot women look like that .....

On Halloween.

But, as per the thread: It has a lot to do with your skilz when it comes to resins, composites, fiberglass, carbon....
Your first project should not be your hull.
