Sometimes when we hit the start button, instead of the starter turning we just hear a click sound. We release the starter button and push again and sometimes it clicks again, but usually the starter starts turning.

The best way to describe the clicking noise is like when your car starter's shot and the solenoid engages on it without the starter turning.

New starter, same behavior.

Do you guys think it might be the solenoid?

Thanx!

Yes its the solenoid, replace it with the tan solenoid, there is some rewiring that has to be done, but its pretty simple.

That is the old style solenoid, they are junk the newer style tan solenoids are excellent, they did make a kit that came with a solenoid and all the wiring for the swapover,I don't know if they are still available ,you need to call your local dealer on this one and find out.

That is what you want, they are now running those solenoids exposed to the elements attached to a plate inside the watercraft, they are that tough.
