storing a ski in public storage?

i'm at college so i don't really have a place to store the ski and was curious if i could just stick the ski in public storage or if it would be better to find a boat storage place. Just not too sure on the rules for storing gas powered things at public storage.Has anyone ever put their ski in one? i am going to try to store a 550 and SJ

I have stored my skis in one. It wasn't P.S. but another name which I can't recall, they're all the same really.
Just call around, some allow them, some don't.

I wouldn't store it in an open storage. The last time mine was stored in an open lot someone turned on my bilge and ran down my battery. No telling what else they did. I would rent a 10' X 10' mini storage to put my toys and tools.

Our group has had a couple storage units that we STUFFED full of jetski stuff. Technically, it wasn't allowed. There were supposed to be drained of gas and hazardous materials. We just figured, don't ask don't tell was the best policy.

generally - if it the unit has a door wide enough to drive into - storing gas operated *anything* is OK

if it has a walk-in door, you are not supposed to store anything flammable in them. If for some reason there is a fire - you may catch part of the blame for storing flammables.

My local dealer, Barney's, has Barney's Mini storage just for this sort of thing. Check it out if you have a larger dealer near you.

They steal our batteries and radio equiptment out of the boat at the open lot. We have to pull all valuables out before we park it. Except the ore. It's split in 2 and as it turns out, it wasn't worth stealing.

I stored my motorcycles in a mini storage unit once.

Someone broke in and cleaned the unit out - except for the bikes. They were chained together & my street bike steering was locked. I'm sure they could have cut the chain and taken my dirt bike, but they didn't...

I'd put a lock on the trailer ball lock, strap down the ski, and lock it down any way you can to slow down and otherwise discourage anybody thinking of taking it. Oh yeah, put a good lock on the unit door too.

Good luck,

these skis are just going to be on stands, i just load em in the back of the truck.i'm sure i can come up with an idea though. i am just gonna store em there for a few months til the end of summer.

Me and my friend both rent storage units and use them as our garage/work shop.
Never had a problem and the owners know what we do in there.

Just think of all the lawn mowers that get stored in there.

I have one that is 10 by 18, got power so I use it as a workshop
and all for just 140 a month, make sure that they are open late
so you dont have to finish your projects at 6.00 PM.

dam! Im in the same position as boggs. In college and need a place to keep the skiis.
140 is waay over my budget. I could afford 20-40 a month..

anyone from the X in tally? maybe someone up there or very close by will hold your ski for you?

ya theres one guy who sent me a PM, said he goes to fsu also but doesnt know where to ride. I need to pm him againa and see if hes got a plan.
Most people live apartments or dorms. Very few houses to keep a ski at.

Closest person to me that I can go ride with is Flush :hail:

it really depends where do you live.
SW florida....for 40 bucks you wouldnt be able to put your ski in a
open storage, that my friend would cost you 81 $

you add another 60 $ and you have your own garage:biggthumpup:

Public Storage charged me $100 for a unit in Central Fl last year, and the guy was retarded about my having the tank empty each time I brought it into the place. I just recently found a place Marine shop/storage that charges me $50.00 (high fences, cameras and alarms), plus they tractor it around to me and hitch it up, visa versa when I arrive and they will let me use their water to blow it out. Only thing is that it is outside storage, and everyone says I need to leave my hull open. Cylinoids (sp?) just froze on the jeep ($500 for the front) on the way back this weekend, so I managed to get the trailer in the garage without the larger ski since I could hand push it in (800lb...impressed myself even, but thankful).
