I have been basically living at the lake since I was tiny....you still have common sense (well most of us anyways) when you are a kid. I knew what to do ....and I started going to the lake on my bike with my brother when I was young...never had parental supervision..I just knew better! :pokey:

And we never had a boat or a ski......and we sure as heck weren't rich HAHA

U should consider yourself privileged.

Some never go to the lake with their parents. Many only go once in a blue moon.
I went to the lake a total of 2 times during my 18 years with my parents. Both times to cold Vallecito lake in CO.

It seems to have a lot to do with where they grow up, too. People who live hours from the lake seem to go quite a bit less then people who live minutes away.

they don't have to be rich. but if you did not know any one with a boat or ski then you never learned boat safety. not too many people try learn about some thing they never do.

Everyone musta forgotten just how expensive boats were back in the day. The only people that I knew that owned boats were the rich people like lawyers. Boats have really come down in price in the past decade.

Or maybe it was like that only in my area. I grew up several hours from any lake.

Remember when $1000 actually meant something? Cars used to cost less then $10,000 brand spanking new. Didn't mean everyone could afford 1.

must have just been where you lived...

everyone had boats around us....they weren't all super nice (most of them fishing boats)....but they were fairly common.

Even if you didn't have a boat .....or spend tons of time on the water your common sense should still kick in about SOME things :thinkerg::silly:

Boats aren't cheap but...
A couple years ago I went to a boat show. You could get financing on a new Bayliner with a 20 year payoff. That worked out to like $99 a month. Bayliner is at the lower end of the boat spectrum. If used very much it probably wouldn't be working very well after 20 years.

That would make it so any idiot can afford a boat.

Every redneck or idiot on the lake here has a shiny Bayliner.....and they are usually the ones that don't know what in the hell they are doing or where they are going. Channel markers? who needs 'em! :dunce:

Which would explain the influx of people without any type of water knowledge.

Also over the last few years there was "while you are refinancing your house would you like some money for something else you don't need".

I wasn't going to put down Bayliners and offend anyone but now it seems to be covered. One of favorites was a couple years ago early in the season. A Bayliner put in without drain plugs. They were doing the stupid amateur act of loading equipment at the dock. Then someone sees water in the bottom of the boat.

It was the classic fat women pacing up and down the dock (she couldn't move any faster) waving hands and freaking out as the "man" ran to get the trailer.

After they pulled the boat out all of 30 feet they sat in the lane on the ramp for 20 minutes while it drained. We were 1/3 of the way through our day of riding and chilling at the lake so it only provided us with entertainment not problems for once.

But you’ll put down the classic fat women. (can't figure out which emoticon to use, lol.)

A few of us on a recent ride witnessed an event as well on the ramp, alcohol related (I was up at the jeep, so I can’t offer more).

Nice of you to assist them Matt.
