Are the stock SXR800 swirl impellers aluminum or stainless steel?

anyone know what pitch they are?

may put in my fx-1

thanks

After talking to Meesster Gomez, I think ive been convinced to try out a SXR prop. He says that my hooker may be good in surf but not on flatwater.

Ohrm..

I run a hooker for flatwater. No problems. There is not that much difference from a Hooker to a Concorde to a skat freeride swirl. The Hooker is better, but not night an day. If you were coming from and old school prop then yeah, it is that much better.

He said it is very easy to overload a setup out of the whole with a impros hooker. The SXR does not grab as hard and lets the motor rev up much quicker.

I'm at a 9/17 already. Going to a shallower pitch is just gonna hurt me even more. I'm thinking i need to try building more pump pressure after riding today, the motor revs fast, and the pump does not cavitate, but doesnt seem to push the ski to hard. I'm going to try out the TBM long cone. Or maybe theres the chance that the x2 reduction nozzle is just to big (or to small?)

The motor is running amazing after swapping out to all brand new electronics. Now I just need an MSD.

Fox just curious... are you using a K650 pump with the hooker? Or is this on an SXR?

650. I was planning on going to the SXR pump, but Art strongly advised against it. The setback would be far to much and just overload the motor rediculous. He says even the -6 hooker on the k650 is too setback.

why you ask?

Shawn, are you running the TBM yet? I know we are running similar pump and engine setups... ( i use the word similar rather loosely as I know not many boats are in anyway similar to mine).... Check out my new video. Listen to what you think the motor sounds like....

Thanks, thats great info for me. I have fought the same fight you are fighting, except you started with a yamaha motor. I had a custom swirl 12/17 c75 cutback prop made for the 650 pump. Then I had a TBM stuffer machined to go in the 650 pump. No matter what I tried I could not get the lowend where I wanted it. I had the prop repitched down to 10/17....still mushy/soft on the initial hit. I have even rode X2's that had 750 pump conversions, and they still had "slow to go" lowend. I went as far as to dropped in a 215psi racegas sxr motor, with crazy timing advance, and a lightweight flywheel. Still soft bottomend. :261:

Fast forward...Now I have the same hull, just with a full 701 driveline. Running the same pitch 12/17 c75 in a 144pump with TBM, and its unreal the difference it makes on the lowend pop and hookup. Whitewater hookup is easily 10x as good. Problem is, this requires custom midshaft mounting, and crazy midshaft/driveshaft combos to reach. A big headache of a project. Why does Kawi driveline have to be just so simple....

If I ever build a boat that requires a kawi pump, I am going to use a 144 MAG 12vein pump. That has to be the best compromise.

So the best compromise is a $1500 pump setup? Your nuts.

So did you ever run your yami motor setup on a kawi pump? I thought you stuck with the 140 pump, I didnt know you went to a 144 pump on your carbon x2.

I'm just not so sure whether its the pump, the impeller, the TBM cone, or the damn big X2 nozzle... Theres not much info on kawi pumps out there for what we are doing.

I think my next thing is going to be rip out the pump and give it my full blue printing treatment.... like I used to do to my 550 pumps. Take 2 mil out of the housing...

Ya I know the $1500 mag setup sounds crazy. But that is only if I run a hull that absolutely REQUIRES a kawi pump. I never ran the 701 with the 650 pump. The FX1 guys would probably know the most, as that is a popular mod.
Yes my carbon X2 is a full 144 setup. Midshaft from a XL700 and a blaster1 driveshaft, to get the correct distance to the pump. Just for an FYI. During my 650 pump troubleshooting, I wanted to eliminate anything that might be causing cavitation. So I started fresh with a mint pump that was relined by exactal tool here in nj, then sent the pump to groupk for blueprinting. Then I installed a brand new skat 12/17 swirl prop. So everything in the pump was brand new mint.

So send that pump to me...

You see that mag pump that was converted to mount in a 650 on PWCtoday?

900... including the impeller. 12vane and setback 1". DAaamnit!

i hate the fact that I cant go to those Rubber/polymer liners.

Ya JD's mag 650 is a steal. With all the shipping costs and waiting, that is easily a $1500 setup. Believe me, if I wasnt a fully converted yamaha guy I would already own it.

So do you really think the 144 pump is just setup to have more grunt by pushing higher volume than the higher pressure kawi pump?

I need somebody who has good experience with a similar fx1 to ride my boat. I may just have my standards set to high...
