still can't get the UMI Steering apart!!! Please Help!

So a guy gave a UMI Steering System for my blaster. The billet aluminum and stainless steel shaft are in good condition, but I can't get the damn shaft out of the housing. The bearing is locked on there.

I've tryed everything. I've let it soak in WD-40 two nights in a row. Tonight I took a torch too it and heated it up. I am beating the sh*t out of the bottom part of the shaft trying to get it out, but its not budging.

I take it that the bearings are pressed on there? Should I use a wheel puller or something?

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the shaft out or has anyone dealt with my same problem?

Thanks,
Dan

You may have to use a press to get it out. Sorry, haven't put a UMI for a blaster together but if you need any help with an accusteer system give me a ring.

One thing for sure, replace those rusty bearings with stainless CASING bearings.

Be sure to take some 2x4s in case the shop doesn't have any to use. You do not want to mess up that nice billet finish, though they may cave under the pressure.

using a torch has always worked for me. don't be afraid to heat it up really well. sometimes they are really stuck.

just fyi umi recommends rebuilding the unit yearly.

I just talked to UMI and they kinda pissed me off. the guy basically told me that I'm going to need a new shaft because I am going to ruin the shaft getting it out.

The only way I can see ruining the shaft is buy crushing the threads. As long as you use a 2x4 and a nut on the shaft so you can always back it out and rethread it I think I'll be fine.
