I still cannot get my sj to rev up in the water after I widened the ex ports.when its on the trailor it revs up fine when i put it in the water it doesnt have any bottom end snap it does pull pretty hard but just not at the begining.I changed piolet jets and messed around with the carb.I put new reeds in.Any other direction to look trying to get it running before the jersey rager.
Thanks

So, the motor ran fine, then you ported the cyl. Did you change anything else?

Did you check the piston wash?

Does it bog, or just no power off the bottom?

I have ridden a number of sj's with ported cylinders, and it seemed like there was no bottom end at all, then it would come on in the mid range. I think it has to do with jetting and how the cyl. was ported.

I forgot!
my 701 is ported with the exhaust widened not raised and the intake sleeve shortened a bit, it was the sport port freestyle version and it is instant power off idle, i run a single 48 powerbomb that is easy to tune.

Put it in the water and try and run it few minutes with it not running right, shut if off, put on trailer or stand and pull the head right away and look any water in the cylinder or on the chambers and plugs!
I have seen water leaks do this so many times!
