Steering stuck 750sx

I have a 94 750 SX and a friend was out riding it when the nozzle stuck in the fully extended (shooting jet to the right) position. The handle bars move just fine but I can't get the jet nozzle unstuck.

I'm thinking the steering cable is shot, and I plan to replace that, but what would cause the nozzle to be stuck?

Yeah that's correct. I couldn't move the nozzle by hand at all while it was on the lift. I'll take it out of the lake today so I can go through it.
It just seemed strange it was stuck.

The cable is just held onto the nozzle with a slide joint. Anytime you are in doubt about what is broken in your steering system, you can pop both ends off. Then you can isolate the cable, the turn plate and the nozzle. It's almost always the steering cable.

Just thought I'd circle around to this. I replaced the steering cable. It was stuck or something when it broke. Turned out it may have got pinched in the pole bracket and eventually snapped. Not bad for a 20 year old cable. The replacement took me a few hours, had to remove everything.
