Got my first SJ a few weeks ago, 92 SN. My steering has a lot of play up and down, not the typical cable slop. Other than getting an aftermarket system, are there any tricks to make this better? Would replacing the two white bushing on each side of the turn plate make a difference? Actually, is there supposed to be something more than that? Mine has, from bottom up, lock nut, nut, washer, bushing, plate then bushing. Is that right?

Just tighten it up and ride.
It will get sloppy again over time, so just re-tighten.
