Freestyle Steering nozzle discussion and experiances

Interested in what others have experienced.

I have xmetal trim on a stock 144 pump, pro tec nozzle cut to +20 ish..
10/16 hooker, 771 ported, enhancer, pfp not tuned right lol...

Anyways, the reason for this post is there have been a few posts on this topic and I am also having steering issues with my set up.

I did some max throw mods and think I may have screwed myself into some weird cavitation, or lack of efficient thrust due to the water flow plowing into the nozzle and deflecting too much and reducing proper thrust. Running CF steering and re-drilled my nozzle steering ball end location for max throw.

When I rode my buddies BG3 it steered awesome and was way easier to try flat spins on. He's running a stock 62t nozzle and not sure yet if he re-drilled and moved the ball in.

I need to get a look at his again, but mine doesn't work nearly as well.

Anybody else played with these set ups? I'm currently waiting on a stock 62t steering nozzle.

Here's some pics of what I have going on. Also I had to do a of grinding on the inside area of the sides on the nozzle to get this throw. Which in hindsight may have screwed me in a few ways lol!

I don't think you can get cavitation from a steering nozzle. The pump has to be sucking air from the front.

Not totally true, but I've got a ton of deflection going on. When looking in the nozzle, when the bars are turned 50% of the flow is running into a wall. I'll just see how the stock nozzle works when it shows up and post back.

On a side note, cavitation can and does happen inside piping. Especially when moving through fittings under certain conditions.

Looks like you need a rickter flow guard at ~$500. That will fix your problem and add about 4+ feet to your flatwater moves.
Sad, but possibly true... It does make sense, but damm those are spendy! Can get a Solas mag conversion for less, then still get the flow guard. it's a sick world lol! I did some modding to my pro Tec nozzle yesterday and it helped, but still not what Orangefingers stock 62t nozzle does. I had to give it a shot though.

I filled in the recesses for the trim ring bolts and brought in the sides of the steering nozzle closer (with glass) to the trim ring. It did help, but still missed. It did cut down on the spray (back at the ex outlet) when the bars are cranked. So that was cool.

I'll post up as the set up gets better.

Surprised nobody else has had issues, or succeeded in this area. I'm guinea piggin it!!

dude , replace your grate its the wrong one, replace the dam nozzle to 62 T and you will be rockin , possible try longer ride plate ( deflection )
and stop spending money on rickter stuff..:0) loooool
