Steering cable removal and install????

mademan9

I ride a SuperFrk WannaBe
I noticed a few days ago that my steering cable was bent at the handle pole side. I'm guessing because of shorter rn pole. So I tried to fix the bent end and SNAP! I read a couple of threads about installs, but what to see if anyone else has any tricks. I have another cable off of my fx1. My setup is sn with -3 rn pole and xmetal shorty steering plate. Would fx1 cable work. And what is the easiest way to take out and install cable??
Thanks .

The FX1 cable will not work without modification.
IMHO, you're better off buying a new cable.

Your cable didn't bend because of a -3 pole. When you put an aftermarket steering setup on, or if you change the hole location in the plate or nozzle, you MUST readjust your steering cable to prevent bending it.
You must center the nozzle and make sure the bars are centered. Then you need to steer to each side and confirm that the steering plate is hitting the steering stop on the pole. If it isn't, then the steering cable stops the movement, and that leads to bent/broken cables.

The best way to remove the cable:
Remove the rideplate
Remove the cable from the pump
Remove the pump (optional)
Remove the steering attachment at the end of the cable
Unscrew the white cap on the thru-hull fitting
Pull out the cable a bit and remove the white plastic clip on it
Disconnect the cable from the steering plate
Remove the steering attachment from the other end of the cable (optional)
Remove fuel tank (optional, but good idea)
Pull the cable out from the pump side.

You would have to make the cable ends longer (both of them).
You can do that with a threaded rod and a threaded aluminum spacer. You can buy that at any hardware store.
I've bought OEM cables from Parker Yamaha in the past because they had the best prices.
I would buy the OEM RN cable. It is cheaper than the SN cable, I believe. $107 last time I looked.

dont know if it would work for a sj but i put a gp800 cable in my b1 and its bad ass, its bigger all i had to do was make a new bracket on the underside of the hood where the hold down is, i dont think ill break this one
