Steering cable problem

Hi guys, i have got myself a little problem. I have recently fitted a Atp freestyle nozzle to compliment the Atp short turnplate (mounted on -4" Rn pole c/w Rn cable) already fitted to my 94 SJ. It is bending the cable at the pump end (see photo). At full lock the nozzle gives hull to hull steering and a wee bit more, is this too much? Can my 82mm, F/s sport ported, B pipe, 44mm single carb, with a 9/15 hooker have to much shunt at hard lock for the cable to cope? This is my second steering cable Fooked in a week:frown:

its the nozzle. for some reason aftermarket nozzles KILL steering cables.
someday, someone will make a dual cable system like it should be.

I have straghtened the cable, moved the ball joint in to the inside position on the turnplate, and turned the lockstop broadside so as to limit throw, not quite what i had in mind tho. Gona go ride it in a bit to see if it works. Thanks for the input.

Hi,
If you have more than hull to hull steering you will bend the cable every time, it simply can,t stand the pressure. Best set it 10-15mm in from the hull.

Have got nozzle about 20mm from the sides and it still bent the cable, not quite as bad but still turds! Lucky i just put some str8 bars on, more leverage for wrestling my stiff cable :eek:uch:
Is this the way it has to be?

if your nozzle hits its limite but your bars have not, you will bend the cable, It is not a matter of if.

with the XMetal, you have to cut part of the threads off. Not sure if this actually limits the throw or not. (have not really sat down and really thought about it).

Hi, the turnplate hits the stops long before the nozzle/cable runs out of throw. Am thinking the right sized stainless tube(just big enough to slide over the cable stainless sleeve) tiged to a 8mm stainless nut, then tightened up to the cable end locknut would limit how much the threaded bar part can bend. Lol i can here my local metal magician groan already.

Laters.

put a new cable in, crank the bars all the way left and see if the cable is hitting the pump. It is rare that a cable is going to bend right there without either hitting the pump or the nozzle is bottoming out before the turn plate.

Just noticed you're over here in the UK, it would be better to give us a call so that we can help you sort this out rather than just keep throwing steering cables at it. Talking to the manufacturers is often the quickest and most productive route. (no offence guys).
Chris.
