Stator: COIL PULSER replacement

So I was removing my flywheel and buggered my stator.

I have heard of some potential timing problems with the rebuilt stators from JSS and was wondering if I would run into any problems if I just replaced the pulser on the stator instead of rebuilding it. Especially since this is on a new ski.

I'm no electrician, but is it ok to run as it?

(Installation of Advent T3 CDI called for inspection of stator to ensure it was not off (static advancement of timing).

It looks to me like the epoxy has just chipped off. It doesn't appear that the wire is damaged, is it? If it's just chipped, mix up some epoxy and smear it on.

Extreme closeup!!!

If you look at the largest piece on my hand, you can see 1 or 2 stands of wire. If I just epoxy it, will this affect the CDI (timing) any?

Pulser coil 12.6 to 15.4 ohms.

Stator test 62T
Black to white W/red trace 12.6-15.5 ohms
Black to brown W/white trace 497-608 ohms
Green to green 1.14-1.40ohms

these specs are for a 62T stator the 61x will be slightly different except for the pulse coil.

Hold on a minute. There is clearly a piece of wire in the chip in your hand. As you may (or may not) know, the coil is one continuous winding. You just took a chunk out of it. The only way it will remain continuous is the unlikely case where one section of the winding is shorting to another adjacent section. Even if this is the case, with vibration, it will be intermittent.

Replace that thing.

You can replace it with a new/known-good one, or send it to JSS. Either way is fine as long as the solder connections are good.

Agree must test or replace!

Holly shiot Mark, this is the 2nd time in 2 days you have helped me out. I was going to post up and see if anyone had these specs. tonight as I need to test my stator on a square I just built. Are you going to Daytona, I owe you a few cold ones. :beerchug:

You know, I didn't even see the strand of wire until it was pointed out for the 3rd time? Joe is correct, test first.

I'm no expert by know means but I'm gonna say that since its all together touching each other, it will be fine. Just needs to be sealed up in epoxy .

Ok, call in the expert gurus!

You would think so, however, here is the thing. Remember electromagnets that some of us used to make with batteries, nails, and wire as kids? remember that the more windings the stronger the magnet (as long as you used a battery that could provide current through the length of wire). Well the reverse holds here. The longer the winding, the stronger the signal.

Even if there is continuity, you have no idea how many windings are "dead" due to the missing chunk of wire.

Trust me on this one. It needs to be replaced.
