300/440/550 Starting Issues - No Clicking, Cranking, NOTHING!

I have a '89 550 that is not clicking or starting what so ever. I just replaced the starter, installed a new battery and a new relay. But still nothing. How can I check to see if the start/stop switch is the problem? I followed the start switch wires to the ebox and connected them together and still nothing.

The only time I got it to turn over is when I connected the two terminals on the relay.

With the battery hooked up and the ebox opened, I used a multimeter to find all my 12 volt sources from the relay, but still nothing. Aside from the relay, is there any other component in the ebox that would prevent the ski from turning over?

I know all my grounds are good, and that no wires are exposed or damaged, I double and triple checked everything.

I am at a loss, please help!

you need to do a voltage drop test.

it will tell you if and where there is high resistance in the starting circuit.

to do a voltage drop test connect a DVOM to any two points on the + or - side of the circuit. with the starter engaged if you read anything greater than 0 volts there is resistance in that connection.

i Know you said you checked your cables but i have seen where the cable looks ok but is broken inside. If there is no clicking then power isnt even getting to your solenoid.

Good point. I would get new battery wires and new terminals. Not that expensive to do and can make your ski crank a lot faster if you had bad cables before. Does the wire going from the battery to starter relay get hot while trying to crank it?

if you do a voltage drop test it will id bad cables, bad connections, bad solenoid ect.

or you can put your DVOM on Ohms and check resistance in the cables, connections and soleniod but voltage drop is better cuz you are checking it with higher current.

with a DVOM set on volts clamp the DVOM - to the starter post and the DVOM + to the bat + hit the starter long enough for the DVOM to reading to stablize. the DVOM should read neer 0 volts here cuz both your DVOM +&- are on the + side of the circuit. if you get a voltage reading here there is resistance in the + side of the circuit and our DVOM - is effectively connected to the - side of that resistance.

repeat the test moving the DVOM - to each connection in the circuit untill you have neer 0 volts and the problem will be starter side of this test point.

if the voltage reading is lower at each test point than you have more than one problem.

No it does not. I voltaged checked the terminals at the relay and I am getting a solid 12 volts.

Screming440, thanks for the step by step process, I will see if this works.

I am having the exact same problem. Can you please let me know what ever came of this issue? Did you ever get it running?
