I pulled the starter and bendix out of my junker 650 x2 (purchased in unknown not working condition) and wanted to use them on my new 750 engine for the x2.
The starter works fine, the bendix seems fine and will engaged when spun in my hand. Battery is brand new.
Here is what I think is going on...
Looking at the front of the engine, the starter is rotating clockwise, however to engage the bendix the gear that contacts the starter needs to be rotated counter clockwise.
So when I put power to the starter everything spins fine but the gear never pops out to engage the flywheel.
I have a 650 manual and it says to turn the pinion gear (the part that hits the flywheel) counterclockwise and make sure it spins freely (it does!), and to turn the pinion gear clockwise to hit the stopper (it does!).
Does anyone know the correct rotation for a 650/750 starter?
So I guess I answered my own question... Did I somehow get a starter that spins backwards of what I need?
