SS Switch Replacment

I need to replace the buttons in my SS Switch. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on removing the housing for the buttons, as well as fishing the wires through the hand pole. It’s a SN

Thanks

Disconnect at the plugs coming from the ebox. Tie string or paracord to the wires in the engine bay and pull the wires out through the top of the pole (by steering). Now you can reverse the process tying the string at the top of the pole to the new harness and using it to pull the wiring down the pole and into the engine compartment.

+1 for the paracord fish method.

When disassembling the buttons from the housing, I suggest that you take photos of it before you remove stuff. It goes together pretty logically, but it's nice to have a reference to look back to. Now would be a good time to grind off the "nub" that forces the housing to be indexed at a certain position on the handlebar, presuming that you want to do that and haven't already. If you aren't going to rotate the housing, move it in/out, or use aftermarket bars, then I guess skip the nub removal. If any/all of that is "already knew that" stuff, then ok, but if not, there ya go.

man that paracord method sounds genius! never thought of that. I was just going to try to coat hanger guide it through.

Also filing done the nub is a great idea. Do you just have to really tighten the screws on the switch to help hold it in place, so does it still stay in place without the nub?

Tight but not crazy tight. Tighten and try it, tighten and try it, repeat a few times... It doesn't move very easily. You could put a small dab of something like silicone sealant between the bars and the housing to sort of stick it in place, but too much could be bad.

So a follow up; got the new buttons/wire in and working, but the 2 bolts that hold the chin pad on snapped when i was trying to remove them. So i can’t get the chin pad back on. Any ideas on how to get the chin of to stay on?
