Super Jet Squre nose vs round nose

Are round noses that much better than square noses ? I have a friend who says when the round noses came out some racers liked the squares better. Im over the 750 Sx and want a Super Jet but the round noses are about 1500.00 more money. What is the difference? is it just ergonomics since I understand the lower part of the hull is the same. I don't care if it looks older as long as it handles good.

My first ski was a square and it was a great ski indeed. But the round is much lighter and handle easier IMO. It can do both racing and freestyle easily and lots of aftermarket parts, especially for its cosmetic.

Oh boy.
If you do a quick search you'll find that this one has been argued over and over.
My personal opinion is that the RN is just a cosmetic difference but one that comes at a price. I'd rather have a better driveline than a "pretty" hood.

I love my square. I think the difference is more cosmetic. With the right modifications you can basically have a RN. You can buy and aftermaket hood and nose piece to spruce it up if you want. You can also put a RN pole on there as well. Make sure you research what engine is in it though. They didn't start putting a 701 in squares til like 94 I think. Some one one here will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure...

I think its more a look thing than handling. A square is cheap , but by the time you spend money on the hood and pole you basically but a round. Here is a pic of two sq and the white round nose. All three have aftermarket hoods and nose pc.

Most seem to agree that the RN pole is better - I am very happy keeping and modding my SN a little at a time.
If I had $2-$3k to spend it would go to motor over hull any day.

Since nobody has said it yet, the RN and SN have the same bottom hull, except for the newest RN's which have an updated bottom hull. I'm not sure what year they changed the newest hull. Ger a SN and mod the engine, you'll be happy as a clam.

That is where the similarities stop.

They do not handle the same. The Poles are different, this effects handling. The pole mount is in a different locaton. This effects handing. I have ridden both (who has not) but I can say the RN beats the SN hands down in every aspect of handling. If the SN was so good, you would see more people riding them, not upgrading from SN to RN. They cannot be thrown around like a RN, they cannot be rolled nearly as easy (Flat water).

The SN is a great wave jumping ski at the beach.

You forgot about the " me too" factor.
In all honesty, I'd rather have a strong motor than a pretty ( to some ) hull. The stock SN hood can easily be made to be light and strong for a fraction of the price of an AM RN hood. Poles are easy to switch over as well
I look at the pre 08 RN as a purely cosmetic change.

it's all in peoples heads... Stock for stock the sn pole pivot is like 3 inches lower if I remember correctly. When I switched the only thing I noticed was that I felt higher on a rn. I actually felt my old sn was a little easier to roll.dont believe the hype..... Ride what you got...
oh yea and the reason you prob see more rn than sns is prob the years in production..... And it looks purdier

Another way to look at it is as a game of zeros. RN and an SN is only a zero away.
That $1000 RN hull would only be worth $100 if it wasn't so trendy a.k.a. a SN.

Mademan9 do you know whos white/blue/orange RN that is? I saw it on a WETRACER poster on the weekend. Thats a nice boat and the graphics are pretty slick!

I have tried both, many times.

Neither handles "better" than the other, it's just personal preference. To me, the RN feels less stable in the water, but I think that's because I am used to riding a SN with a short pole and lower pivot.

For all practical purposes though, the only true differences between a SN and RN are the topdeck and carrier bearing assembly. Everything else is a direct swap from RN/SN
