Squish Band?

Hey Shredders,

Can someone chime in on what the optimal squish band is for my project build? I have a 95B1, 701 stock engine (going to port & polish exhaust), single carb?

Ive just built a 62t 61x for my surf boat. Bored it out to 82 and fitted an ada head and only had 037-039' squish.

Jetmanic has the stock 020' thickness then 030', 040' and 050' thickness base gaskets so just got an 030 gasket that should make it 047-049'.

I know it will raise the exhaust port slightly but a dam sight easier and cheaper than having domes machined and cant see it will be noticeable on a small motor.

I am running stock head, in florida so pretty much sea level. I like the idea of changing gaskets?

The squish needs to be set so that the piston hits the head at 1000rpm higher than you will ever see.
I would set your squish at 30 thou

If your running a stock head the squish clearance will be huge. If you fit an AM head its much easier to chance base gasket than sending domes off to be machined, and I cant see that raising the cylinder 010' will make a noticeable power loss.

Built mine up with a 030' base gasket today and now the squish is perfect at 045-048' :)

And with regards to hitting head, I build freestyle boats with high compression so im not running WOT. My concern with a tight squish clearance would be detonation or the damage a bit of water ingress could do.
