Correct, and a roundnose deck is not a perfect fit, you have to modify the nose and bulkhead to make it a perfect fit

I think my next buildup ski will be a Squarenose, I've seen some killer looking ones on here (flyin' hawaiian's to name one).

um if the look of a square is what im after why would i change the top deck?

That was because miles said there are no aftermarket squares. It makes it not a square anymore, but it can be converted.

So lets take away all the parts that make your round feel like a square like lower handlepole brackets ,super short poles. lowered hood, which you dont need on a square because its already lower. Other than a few cosmetics and a lightweight hull that most of us dont have what parts are not available? I will give you that the round pole conversion on a square is sweet so that make all the steering components usable. I pimp a square and love it. I dont even want a round anymore. My next build will be an FX1 I hope. I was going to build a roundie but I coulnt justify it to myself accept for looks because my square can do everthing the round can and feels pretty much the same

LegDragPete sells them, and someone else I think. You can buy an XMetal bracket and drill new holes into the square to make it fit.

I am obviously a big fan of the squarenose Sj as everyone knows  I like the way they handle and to me a squarenose with a shorter roundnose pole (which has better geometry to it and is more compact) is awsome. If you take the time to mod the ski they way it needs to be modded (address the handlepole mounting area, reinforcement and hood liner) it is just as good as a modded roundnose. I do like the tray design of the rounds a little better b/c the turf wraps around the top and provides some comfort to when you use that as a brace to get yourself up.

I am making some changes to the bracket that Sergio made me, then I am going to send him the specs and he will make me anouther for more testing. I am really liking the XFT pole on the squarenose. It not only looks great but fits well and is light.

I am not a fan of the square to round conversion. That is a bit much just to have a roundnose SJ. Looks like it would be a fun project to reconstruct a old squarenose but I would rather put that $$ towards a lighter ski. I just cannot see putting the money into a hull just to put more $$ into it to by a pole, hood, nose peice, footwells, foam, glass, turf, ect. You are probably looking at 3000 for a full conversion w/o paint. I would rather buy an wet laid X-jet or REV hull that is gelcoated. It will be lighter, stronger and it won't still be a SJ.

As far as resale value of the ski, unless you are in the business of building skis who really cares!! If you build a boat build it for you. Your style, your taste ext.. Thats the way I did my ski, I just made changes that I felt were right for my style of riding. Allot of guys think the XFT tank is kind of stupid, but it works great for me. I don't ride long distances so that was not a priority for me. Some people like it, some don't. I have a good amount of $$ in my boat now and there is no way I could get that $$ back if I tried to resell it. But if someone offers me 10,500 for my square I am take them up on it. :cool2:

there is nothing that a round can do that a square can't... My next hull will be another square... this roundnose crap is not all it's worked up to be. IMO

I ran squares up until January and loved them. I found a really good deal on a round and wanted to build it up... Big mistake on my part, I should have just gotten the Magoo work done and slapped it in another squarenose... all the stuff to build a round is sooooo much more expensive. I put way more money into this ski than I wanted to and It won't las any longer than my others... Big mistake getting all wrapped up in a project that was over my head as far as $$$$$ goes..

If you make decant money... hell, get all the crap, but if not and you just want to ride, buy a square...

Nick, what's more expensive in the Round (in a surfboat)?
The hood kit?
You still need to do everything to the hull on both RN and SN. The only $$$ difference will come in with the hood kit, no?
Of course, the hull itself is more expensive, as well.

1. round hulls are garbage... nothing lioke the stregth of my square. (I saw someone say rounds were stonger HA HA HA HA HA HA.... That was amusing) they require more reinforcing for what I do.
2. The cost of a stock round hull is 1500$-2000$. the last 3 square nose hulls I have gotten were free
3. hood kits are very expensive 750$-1000$. My square "slut' hood mod will set ya back about 15$
4. all other associated trim and parts are either free or very cheap... No one wants them...
5. Same bottom deck is the same as a round (that is the only part that touches the water)
6.lower center of gravity on the stock handpole bracket and will withstand all types of abuse (never broke one ever)
7. same pump, drivetrain
8. do I need to go on????

Interesting info on the pole bracket. I didn't know they were that strong.
The only real costs that are higher then are the hoodkit and the hull, as stated.
Which are both major expenses.
Points #1, #5, #7 aren't really cost issues, are they?

BTW, I fully agree. A square is much cheaper to build.
That said, I got my roundnose for cheaper than both Squares I have/had, and with some deal scouting, the buildup can be cheap.
Example: I got a hoodkit for 300, and an XMW pole for 400.
