square nose footholds

Looking for pointers from anyone who is offering! Worried about the exhaust pipe showing and placing foam around the exhaust when installing the footholds. Wheels

The only footholds that hit (you need to notch them) when installed in the recommended place are the REVs (but seemingly worth it at that  )

Just received 4lb foam today. Planning on foaming in footholds and using west system 404 + rivets to hold in place. Then glassing in the wcf footholds Next step, engine compartment and glassing the nose. Any pointers from you experienced surgeons.

Unless you've done it before, use cloth, its easier to handle. Taper your layers so that you dont get stress cracks later.

Here's some good light reading if you've never used epoxy:

http://www.westsystem.com/

WEAR GLOVES, glass doesnt like 90 degree angles, and will crack if you force it (later) so take a popsicle stick and use that to create smooth radiuses for the glass to go over if you come to any sharp angles. I always sand with 36 grit and then clean the surface with water (not acetone... that hurts the bond if any trace is left) and then layup.

I've looked at the site. Still glassing the footholds in but using the 404 between the footholds and gunrails. thanks for the info! still looking for advise! Wheels

after you glue in the holds. mix up a few pumps with the 404 mixed in so its like peanut butter. then fair the edges around the hold so there is no more ridge. then while thats still wet lay the glass over it.

Progress

I gave it a valient effort. Feel good about it. Did not lay glass yet but that will happen Friday.

Finished Footholds & moving on to the haul.

Footholds feel solid, two layers of glass. Started tearing the engine apart today. I placed some 404 and a sheet of glass over top of the seem between the haul and top deck. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Planning on finishing up seem and moving on to the nose bracket.

footholds look good, but what kind of glass did you use?

And why are you only doing that very small section of the bondline?

If your gonna reinforce the sides, then fill the entire bondline with epoxy and filler (404 works fine, or wood flour), then lay preferably matback 1208 or 1708 depending on what strengthy you want, over the top of all that, going from the top to bottom. The strongest glass is biax, the weakest is mat. Although mat adheses the best, so matback is nearly the best of both worlds.

ALSO, on the top half of the hull (in the engine compartment), you really gotta grind all the OEM white stuff off, and get down to the black plastic like stuff, otheriwse, it wont adhese as well.
