"Spinning out"

So, if you've read my blog or other posts you'll know I got my skat trak 12/17 impeller and plan to install it soon to replace my Solas J.

However, I am concerned I may have another problem.

From an idle if I pin the throttle it feels like I'm "spinning and spinning" and then it finally hooks up and I'm off.

From my understanding the Solas J does a little better mid range than the Skat-Trak but if I'm spinning the Solas J wont I spin the Skat-Trak 12/17 even MORE????

The Solas J is bling bling plated while the Skat-Trak is rougher will this help?

I just want to make sure I know what else to check while I am changing the Impeller or if I may have to much power for the impellers?

A leak between pump and ski will do that. Make sure the metal part the pump seals against is itself bonded securely to the hull as well.

It's there, I just d-cut my rideplate a few days ago, and it seemed fresh too, atleast the bottom part. I also siliconed between the ride-plate and the #1, and it hasn't blown that out either.

Is it likely that #2 is damaged somewhere else?

I guess I'll find out when I Take it apart to put the new impeller on, just want to make sure I check everything when it's apart this time.

FWIW: The previous owner told me The Ski Clinic in Antioch, CA put on the Solas J very recently. (It looked new to me when I got it (impeller), so I would assume thy checked this stuff to because they tuned it up at the same time... right ??

gj_fx1- What part bonded itself against the ski?

it is part #1 I was talking about, It is screwed and "glued" to the hull, and it needs to be an air tight seal. If in doubt pull it off and re seal with 5200.

#2 is the pump seal. it seals the wear ring(#12 ) to the pump shoe(#1). if there is even a tiny gap in the seal between the shoe and the wear ring, the ski can cavitate severely. you may not be able to see a gap, but there could still be one. just throw a bead of silicone around it when you re-install the pump.
