somone explain engines and cases...

can someone please give me a run down on all super jet engines and what they are. I know they make 650, 701, 760, but don't know how these 6m6, 61x, 62t, case numbers correspond to what engine.

I have a 91 sj, 650 6m6 case ( I know that much) that recently swallowed one of my reeds and sent metal throughout the engine. I disassembled only to find out my crank bearings and rod bearings is toast too.... so now I don't know what to do with it. I may have found a 701 engine for sale, but if I do that are my electrics good or do I need to switch those out too?

Any advice on what to do hear? the Ski is very nice condition, w/ a fresh custom paint job, turf, etc so tossing the whole thing is not really an option, I want to see it run again, but it needs to be affordable. What will it cost me to get that crank rebuilt?

It will cost you at least $300 to get a crank rebuilt.
It would cost you $400 to get a new crank or less than $250 to get a good condition used crank.

For engine info, read here.

Generally speaking, you can use your current electrics in your new engine.

Thanks for the engine info link.

Where should I send that crank to?

Is it true there is a "crank rebuild kit" sold by Yamaha? I know of a very capable engine shop in town that could do the labor for me, how much to buy the rebuild kit?

generally speaking? Why wouldn't I/what issues would I run into?

No, Yamaha does NOT offer a rebuildt crank or a rebuild kit, they want to sell new...
Use SBT for rebuilds, there just ok for the $$ on stockers, Hot rod new replacement crank is next, $$$, the best is a Yamaha new one from Riva already trued and welded, $$$$$

650 - 6m6 cases/cylinder

94-95 superjet (701)- 61x cases and 61x cylinder, single carb
96 and up superjet (701)- 62t cases and 61x cylinder, dual carb

If I remember right you can use the bottom half of a 6m6 case with the top half of a 61x case...

You will find a lot of people on the boards here that don't speak all that highly of SBT but I have a crank from them with a TON of hours on it with no problems.

the more I think about it, the more I am thinking rebuilding that 650 is not worth my money, I am looking at close to $ 700 - $ 800 by the time i have all the parts to rebuild that 650. Pistons, rings, machining, crank, wrist pins, etc...

I think I have located a running 61x short block for a decent price. If I go that route, are my electrics from the 6m6, starter, intake, manifold, stator, flywheel, and other parts all compatible?

The biggest thing is exhaust, I was looking at getting an aftermarket pipe, or hooking up a kawai 650 pipe, but in the meantime would my stock 650 exhaust run on that 61x? Was there any difference from 6m6 to 61x stock exhaust?

Any other conversion problems I would run into?
