Someone School Me!

Hey Guys, I'm trying to get this SN 701 conversion done for my kid and have one last final issue..

IT's a 90 SN and I"m putting in a 61X.. I have no idea what the motor came out of though...

The coupler on the midshaft side has 3 fingers and is green. The coupler side on the crank is black with 5 fingers..

I have an extra green coupler set with 3 fingers on both sides but the threaded part of the coupler for the crank side is to small for the motor so it won't thread on...

Does this bigger crank threaded part sound familiar to anyone?? what coupler set do I need to make this work??

Any help would be great!
Thanks
Doug

It's not that the crank threads are bigger, it's the smaller threads on the older SN mid-shaft.
You are trying to thread the coupler off a mid-shaft onto the crank.

The later mid-shafts and cranks had the same thread diameters so look for a coupler from one of those. You only need one side, right ?

Older midshafts are a smaller diameter. You need to find a different midshaft or a different coupler.

Thanks for the help so far guys! Below are the pics..

The crank side threads are larger and the only thing I have that fits it is the black coupler. It says 63M on it. The other one I have says 6M6-2.

In the pics the couplers on the left thread on the crank (black) and the shaft (green) but one is 5 finger and one is 3. The couplers on the right do not fit..

I'm wondering if this crank came out of something different??

What's 63M?
Thanks again guys!
Doug

So if I found a later crank coupler with 3 fingers I'd be good? How late?
Yes, I only need one side. I have everything in the pics and a 3 finger rubber dampner..

Thanks again!

The 5 finger couplers came on the B2 and the GPs with the 760 motor. Crank is the same on 650,701,760, so u can run 3 or 5 finger couplers. 3 finger ones are much easier to come by.

the crank threads are the same on the PV800 motor too (5 fingers).

So what you guys are saying is that in my pictures I have 1 five finger crank coupler, and 3 shaft side couplers? (2 are the same and 1 is very small)..

Of the 4 couplers that I have in my pictures I have 3 different thread sizes... Does this seem right if the older shaft side had 2 sizes and one of those was also the same size as the crank??

Anyone have a spare crank side 3 finger coupler they want to part with?
Thanks
Doug

right, 3 thread sizes are crank, big mid shaft and small mid shaft. all crank couplers have the same thread. the small mid shaft is from a 650 ski.

I really appreciate the help guys! I'm hoping this is the last big hurdle to get the kid moving on the SJ.. Trying to start him off right since I figure I'm to much of a fat ass to ride it....I will try it though.. :eek:uch:

Troy, I'm sending you a PM. I'll take it. Maybe I should just set up an account with you... :D

Thanks again!
