Hey all, I have a waverunner III (6m6) and I have a 440/550 hull pump etc.

What does it take to put the 6m6 in the 550? is it worth doing and particularly do I need to change the pump?

Has anyone done it yet? Seems that the 6m6 in the light 550 hull would be like making it an FX-1.

Thanks all.

I've seen people put Kawi 750s in 550 hulls, but don't think I've ever seen a Yamaha. You would almost certainly need to change the pump - the 550 pump couldn't take that kinda of torque. Not worth it IMHO, unless you're doing just to say you were able to do it.

I've seen a 440 hull and pump handle a vhp 7000 (70 hp) so a 701 (73 hp) sounds doable.

I have a 550/650 conversion ski that I built and it is more than enough power and hook's up real good 15/20 solas.
the guy's that have done 750 kawi's in the 550 hull all admit it is a waste of motor, that hull is only good for around 45 m.p.h. and from there up good luck lol
if you are wanting to do the yami in a 550 hull that might be more work than just selling what you have and buy a conversion ski that is already done.

Suva, I'm glad you see my point. if I could get this together for CHEAP it would be a fun ski. And it would make one hell of a sleeper having that yami in the 550.

If I got the right pump it'd probably throw those Kawi 750 guys for a loop when it looks like an old 550 just past'em up.........If I do it maybe Ill slap some Kawi js300 stickers on the side.

Who wants to go over 45 on a stand up anyway? I want bottom end.
And whats with this "More than enough power" - no such thing.

And #1 reason, I want Yamaha reliability. hahaha!
