300/440/550 SN SJ vs. 650sx

hi,

I am just wondering what peoples opinions are about the old Squarenose Superjet against the Kawi 650sx for freestyle. I see a lot of people restoring old SJ's but noone doing the same work to a 650sx. I have done some work to an old 650sx and love it for freestyle I feel that it is a lot lighter than my roommates 1990 SJ. Just looking for some opinions. thanks MATT

A 650SX is lighter, but not by much (I'd guess 5 pounds). Your friends SJ must be really waterlogged.

My first standup as a 650Sx and I loved it at the time, but I really can't think of anything I like better about the 650SX...

650sx's are tanks compared to superjets. The kawi handles like poo in my opinion. i also dont like front exhaust..
Just sold my sx, getting an SJ. Funny thing is, most of the true freestylers convert the SJ to front exhaust to run dual scuppers. You will never be really happy with the SX unless you sink huge $$$ into it. Start with a better platform.

I started with a slow, stock 650sx and learned to ride on it and do some basic tricks. But, it did seem like my riding greatly improved when I bought a modded 650 squarenose (and started riding in surf).
I think we can agree that we all love any modded standup. Post some pics and show off what you've done to it.

I found a big difference in build quality as far as the little things go. The way the 650sx is setup like the steering setup, hood, tray pads and such. It just has a tacky feel to it kind of like pontiac. The motor & pump are not that bad except for the tiny ass carb.

I started out on a 650sx and really liked it. But I got the squarenose superjet b/c it handles better and they make more power. They also have a larger pump. Both are fun skis. If that 650sx just had more power it would have been allot more fun.

HEy but the 650sx has that cool crank drain valve thingy :) Sell the sx and get a SJ you'll be so mch happier. I had both at the time my sx was faster than my sj but not nearly as fun to ride.

Well when all is said and done.......I have both......a roundy (not square) and a 650sx (which will have a 44mm mikuni as only mod engine wise) I am keeping the SX for those who want to learn to ride...because complete beginners do not need to ride a modded SJ.....So I would offer this....can we agree that the 650SX is a good starter/learner ski or casual rider that just wants to putt around the lake......?

I have a 650sx and i have dumped alot of $$ into it and im very happy with it.Sure the sj might be better for freestyle but im still young and im learning freestyle basics on a sx and im haveing fun.I think the sx is pretty good.Just because you dont have a sj doesnt mean you can have just as much funn. And to the people who say the sx handles bad must be pretty bad because i dont thank any other boat except a rn or sxr handles as good as the sx does.

i started out on a 89 650sx (last year) this year i have a sn superjet. I reallly like the sn for turning and its light feel. the 650sx has a hugeness feel to me .. but i still like them and plan on picking one up to mess around with.. i wont put much money into it thought.. they really turn like crap. sx for puttin and sn for stuntin

Change the bars and add a finger throttle then get rid of the oil injection and mix your own...then it'll hadle alot better and be a little lighter you'll like it then...and you can always change the grate and the rid plate that does a ton for handling
