Super Jet SN Hull Mods

MMS_Resized_Pix.jpg
Hi guys, I am looking for tips and tricks to modify my SN. This ski used to be used for limited racing, and I’m looking to make it handle better and be a little more freestylish. Some ideas I’ve been contemplating are built on front sponsons. I am going to model them after the 2011 SJ. I was also looking into deepening the strakes, then lightening the hood with a new insert. If I buy foot wells, which ones do you prefer? Some of them look like they would irritate your ankles. What I need is any images, links, or suggestions that will give me design ideas. One goal is to lighten the ski’s overall weight so any suggestions would be appreciated. I’ve already hollowed out the wet foam, but before I buy expandable foam can anyone suggest a lightweight waterproof version? Or has anyone actually tried putting in and sealing ping-pong balls? I will post some pictures of the work next week if anyone is interested.

Thanks for your help,
Jim Battaglia

There have been quite a bit Ping pong build threads too. Not to sure if building your own front sponsons would be worth it. #Zero has already made some that have gotten amazing reviews. Might want to check into them.

In all, the search feature (Or Google), is your best friend.

i rode a square for 2 seasons, you prolly don't wanna shorten it for racing. buy an exteneded ride plate and a scoop grate to keep it stuck to the water.

Thanks for the tip, that was dumb! (owa tana siam) what does shortening the hull do? and do you have a thread for the ping pong balls and # Zero, I've tried a search and came up with nothing. JB

I reformed my square with ping pong balls. If you do, also put drain plugs in the hull. I am in the process of sealing up my hood vents and redoing the hood liner. It is amazing how heavy the stock liner is. Also you might want to look at putting a RN hand pole (shortened) on, that is one great thing I did to mine also.

I was considering a hood mod depending on how much time I have before the season starts. A friend of mine replaced his hood liner and it was much lighter. Do you have pictures of your mod’s? I've seen pictures of people lowering the hoods. What does that do? I was looking into using ping-pong balls and encapsulating them with waterproof expandable foam. One concern I have is that without the foam, the integrity of the hull would be compromised. It seems more flexible now when I push on it. Did you put the RN pole on because you preferred that to an aluminum pole, or is it cheaper to do a conversion? I called AC, and they weighed their pole to an OEM pole and it was only two ponds lighter. I didn’t feel that for the cost it was worth it for two pounds, but I’m not sure what advantage a shorter pole will give me?

Thanks for your help,
JB

The stock RN pole is much lighter than the SN pole. When you shorten it, it moves your weight a little more forward. I uses the beer pong balls for ebay (8 gross of them). I put them in the bottom part of the hull, fiberglassed the ski back up, then poured the expandable foam in through a couple small holes that I put on top of the gunwails. That way the foam would hold the balls in place and it would fill the sides up for strenth.
