small problem

well i had my jetski at the lake today and ive been having a problem with it running good for about a half hour then it would start to bog out and i could only get it to idle, then if i gave it gas it would just bog out. I put some new plugs in it today becasue that was the only thing else i could think of that could be causing the problem because i just rebuilt the carb and put the stock flame arrestor back on so i know its not getting water in the carb. so after riding today for about an hour and ahalf i thought my problem was solved but then it started doing it again... so any ideas? its 61x with riva red pipe with 44 carb.

This has happened to me twice now. On mine it slowly got worse. It was my coil wires. The first time I replaced it with a used coil. It fixed the problem for about a month. I then replaced it with a new coil and have not had a problem since. Try cutting back the plug wires. It may be a temporary fix.

I chased the second problem for a while. I finally tried a trick i read somewhere on here. I sprayed saltwater on all the wires in the hull while the engine was running. In the dark, I could see the spark finding any ground possible as soon as salt water was near the coil wires.

It could also be many other things. This just sounds like the same symptoms I had with bad coils.

IF this is the problem, it is most likely your plug wires that are bad not your coil. But it is a pain in the ass to change out the wires. Most people just replace the coil.

Here is a thread that explains how to change the wires: http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/26552&highlight=plug+wire+tool

Try getting new plug boots from a local shop and cutting your wires back. 2 inches if you have enough wire. If it still does it try the salt water spray test in complete darkness.

well this didnt fix my problem. is it possible that the water in the ebox could of messed up the stock cdi? my other idea was maybee there was something wrong with the fuel pickup becaue it almost seems like once it gets to a certain level of fuel it starts to doit, but i took my fuel pickup all apart and there is nothing wrong with it? any other ideas?

Check to see if any of your exhaust hoses have a crack in them. Could be that fumes are choking out the motor while you are riding. Mine did that. It ran for about five minutes, then just quit, but it would fire right back up. I had that same riva red pipe on it.

also.... how old is the battery in that thing?

*Nice handle pole by the way... that thing is sick!

My ski had crap in the small filter screen on the fuel pump side of the carb.Runs fine at idle and light throttle. As soon as you give it full throttle the fuel demand cannot be met due to the restriction and it will net rev out.Replace main fuel filter, clean or replace carb filter screen checking all passages in carb, inspect fuel lines, check fuel tank vent and vacuum test fuel valve.Good luck!

I actually rode this boat Thursday. I am usually pretty strong on trouble shooting I've been wrenching/riding for over 15 years.
This one has me a little stumped. When I first started riding I noticed a slight lean hesitation. Later is was like a light switch. You could ease into the throttle slowly and everything was crisp and clean. When you hit about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle it felt like someone pulled the lanyard. If you let off the throttle it would stay running. It cuts off so crisp and clean that I really dont think it's fuel/carb related. When I have had fuel screens plug or other fuel related issues you would see some bogging and get that running out of gas feel.
I'm thinking something electrical, but its weird how it directly reacts to throttle/rpm. I think I would want to try another CDI. It's not plug wires. Since you had water in the ebox, CDI is still my best guess even though I have never had a bad CDI act exactly like that.

Keep us posted.

I'm guessing it's related to the carb rebuild. If you figure the problem out, let us know though. My 750 has similar problems right now. I'll be heading to the lake to see if my latest fix has solved my problem.
