Super Jet ski wont shutoff (not airleak)

my sj motor wont stop when i hit the stop button or pull the lanyard. i tried unplugging the black and white wires and jumping them at the ebox and that shuts the motor down fine, so my problem is obviously in the start/stop switch assembly or connector. the connector looks fine. is this just a matter of dirty a connection in the switch itself that could be easily fixed or is the switch shot and needs to be replaced? thanks.

Take the stop switch apart and clean/sand the connector disk and the two posts.

The plugin connectors go bad too, use some heat shrink marine butt connectors instead. $2 fix

I had this happen and cleaning/sanding helped, but it was still not consistently shutting down.

There are tiny springs which push the contacts together and mine had disintegrated.

Instead of trying to find the springs, I used a left over piece of a girdled head o-ring (the one that seals the water jacket), since the spring and rubber are about the same diameter.

So far it seems to be working fine, hasn't seen a ton of use though.

I've had one instance where my ski idled into someones dock because the start/stop switch was faulty and another where the ski idled towards a swimming area but luckily shut off before reaching it. That was the last straw...no more ghetto rigging safety switches for me. If you can't get consistent results with your fix, it's best to just fork over $50-$60 for a working used switch. Beats a lawsuit or a ski idling towards the middle of the ocean.

this is the 2nd one i bought from people on this board that didnt work.

and i keep my idle so low that it shuts off anyways....this switch is on a ski that im selling, and it makes it a little hard to sell if it wont shut off..lol

haha... ya if it was for my primary ski i would buy a new one, but its for one that i dont use and need to get out of my garage.
