ski runs fine on the trailer but in the water it breaks up bad when i give it gas.... if i stay on the gas wide open it will start to run better once it hits top speed but then will start breaking up again once i slow from wide open.

i pulled the plugs and the tips were wet.... and the liquid looked milky.... but i didn't have much water at all in the hull....

the motor felt like it was running hot (stock motor, stock pipe) but not hot enough to sizzle when i poured water on it.

any ideas?

just installed a brand new msd coil w/wires and caps last week when it started to run :):):):)ty....

the stock wires were arching when sprayed with salt water. possibly just coincidence ?

milky, to me, means water... but i'm new to 2 strokes so i didn't want to assume..... and i wasn't sure where it would come from most likely.

headgasket came to mind immediately, i just didn't want to go throwing parts at it without some advice from someone with a bit more experience in this area....

the motor has a stock head as well.... i'm going to do a compression test tonight as a start....

Leak down test may be a good place to start, it helps pinpoint a leak.

Yup.... Not to be confused with a compression test, if you have a buddy that works at a mechanic shop ask if he will smoke it for you (they stick a tube in your carb fill your motor with smoke and if there is a leak you'll see it)

but since your not having any issues running your ski on the trailer you
A- Head gasket leak
B- you have a cooling line that's leaking and it's shooting straight down your carbs

pull your plugs after the ski has been sitting for a wile and the milky should be more white then last time you checked that's water my friend

i was planning to buy a complete jss box with the enhancer and his magical coil in the next month or two.... funds are kinda tight right now as i overextended myself buying a pump and what appears to be a clusterf^ck of a motor I was hoping to have swapped in soon....

thanks for all the advice. i'll start troubleshooting using all these suggestions tonight after work!

hopefully it's something simple

Just installed a total loss in a FX1 for a friend last month, it was supplied with an MSD coil with wire that were way too short, I swapped in a stocker coil to save some time and effort, long story short another friend ended up putting the MSD coil on his ski, coil died after one ride, started breaking up like crazy, this was in fresh water, those coils suck a$$.

hmmmm, so the milky moisture on my plug tips still has me feeling pretty confident that i have some sort of gasket issue but the breaking up was similar to the way a bad coil would act. i could probably borrow a stock coil from a friend to aid in troubleshooting....

question... IF it is the head gasket, I don't have a spare sitting around and would like to ride this weekend... I do, however, have a girdled oring head with 29cc domes.... it's off a 85.5mm bore motor.... but could i install this on my current stock bore 61x?

Not sure you would have enough flange area on the sleeve to seal to with that head.

i live by hondabond.... that would be sufficient to seal in place of an oem head gasket? :bananajump:

if that's the case i'll pull it tonight and skip waiting on a friend with a compression tester. i'm ASSuming i'd be able to see the fault in the gasket once i pulled it (again, ASSuming the head gasket is my issue)
