1.) Clean those carbs. Pay close attention to the N&S valves. They probably are due for a replacement. If it's dribbling fuel, you either got waaaay low popoff pressure, or a damaged/dirty/clogged N&S

2.) The pipe cooling may be clogged before the restrictor jets. Are you running a strainer?

3.) Personally, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over an 8psi difference. Rebuild it when the time comes. I think if the ring was stuck, the compression would be lower. But I don't know.

Hone and re-ring still costs money. Figure 20-30 for the hone (at least), and 50-60 for two sets of rings.
And after that, you need to break in the topend again. Also, if your tolerances are slightly loose now, they will be looser after the hone.

I think your rings are probably just showing their age. Ring siezes usually drop your comp close to nothing. But 8 PSI aint that much to worry about.

I would agree with Matt. A good carb breakdown / dip / rebuild can work wonders. When in doubt..rebuild. I dont know how much you can read into the "dribbling" at idle. Basically, carbs (those carbs especially) arent intended to work well at idle.

well he can hone it himself, if he has the honer.

First thing is to check the needle/seat. If the rubber tip has a groove in it replace them. Second, replace the carb butterfly shaft bushings, & maybe the shafts & butterflies, depending on how much wear you have.

Third, clean the pipe jets (make sure you don't enlarge them), and get a strainer for just the pipe water (TDR sells a good one).

I'd at least pull the jugs and eyeball the rings & cylinder walls. If that's all you do it's just a base gasket & pipe gasket.

Good luck!

def n/s man...we have been thru this OVER and OVER in st. aug....dribbling jets = n/s..

"the spot" is also notorious for clogging cooling systems....its the coquina rock..

reclean out your pipe even if you just did it.....I'd also disconnect your main water line and blow it out with air AND water......

after every ride at that spot I always notice that my pipe pisser always clogs up a little, so its just normal maintenance to that ride spot...

i just honed mine this last rebuild, very easy and running strong, comprssion is the same now as it was after the first rebuild and honing by a pro

i have the mechanical abilities of a rock so it's not too hard at all, for the cost of a pro i got the tool from autozone

they actually have it in the tool loan box if you don't want to buy it, i agree with matt though, why bother at this point 8 lbs isn't a whole lot
