Good overview video that address plug ins and whatnot.
thanks im currently in the process for setting up my TA through the military so I may make a post once its actually time to pick my classesPublic safety. I'm not presently using sketchup for anything work related. I just used my student status for the discount otherwise I would have bought something else. Even though I'm not doing design work presently and it is not related to this degree, urban planning, architecture and etc are all very applicable to my career.
There are a lot of engineers and the like on this site however that can help you. There have been a few past threads on the very topic you bring up.
Thanks. I noticed it doesn't have a lot of the tools I saw in the brief time I toyed with solid works. I was looking at some plug ins. I don't see tools like round over, chamfer, etc on the base toolbars, but I've only messed with Sketchup for about a hour.

Fully understand that, which is why I decided to actually go through the education office on base instead of doing it all myself even though it takes a little longer this way. But hell if resources are available might as well use emIt's good to ask in advance. I'm pretty good with how all the school stuff works but got messed up because one of my electives is only offered one of the 5 modmesters per year. It messed me up because I'm almost done with my classes and now I have to wait until fall to take a class I could have just taken. Sometimes there's some silly things that are valuable to know you just don't realize.
Found out today that autodesk fusion is Mac/pc and is free for 1 year hobbiest 3 years student.

Haven't tried it yet.
Also found a site called creation engine that hasn't student pricing on a lot of stuff. Sketchup was $50 for a year. Solidworks is $89 but since I'm picking up my MacBook today I'll be trying Fusion instead
