Skat-trak swirl vs solas concord cutback on sj w/bpipe

Didn't really see a thread mainly for this in the search, so I thougth Id start one. I have a concord on my ski right now(not sure what pitch), and I do notice the lag at the beginning of a full throttle acceleration. I ride mostly in rough choppy water, occasional glass but 90% of the time its never completely calm water, so I am looking for the best all around impeller for my situation.


Who has compared these props back to back and what results have you come up with?

I believe Harrison (Big Kahuna) has done that. He has stated before that the Swirl doesn't exhibit the slip behavior.

I think they are 95% the same, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you compared the same pitch. Just my .02.

If you are slipping, try a steeper pitch.

I've also heard that its the polished finish of the solas, i believe impros offers a "pro" finish or something like that to rough it up for more friction.

edit: also have you played with your carbs, pipe, nozzle/cone to try to tune it?

I haven't tried a nozzle/cone yet, but I plan to after this winter to help with some bottom end.

i would find out what pitch you have and check to make sure that the prop edges arent dinged up or bent.

also make sure your carb is fine tuned and pipe is where it needs to be. not by what people recommend but actually experimenting to find your individual setup's sweet spot.

they recommend a refinish on the concord. i was under the impression that this finish was similar to the Scat finish.

they also have a race finish which i believe polished the prop.

yeah I think you're right, I forgot what their terms were, but their standard finish makes it look like the Skat impeller and then for more $$$ they polish it. I've had 3 different cutback Concord's and they were all Skat-like on the finish.

I bought a 12/15 and a 13/16

I have only ran the 12/15 so far.
( cant get the old impeller off of the other pump)

I love it.

I might try a skat swirl next time, I had one on my old 750sx, and it was a great impeller also ( too steep for the engine I had though) but it was alot better than the other impellers I tried.

mines a 13/15 w/ 3 cutback. i'm real happy with it but i havent riden a skat swirl to compare to. its seen some wear now thanks to a shallow channel but still good preformance.

yep.

my 12/15 is cutback 3mm also, as is the 13/16.

and my leading edges are showing some anti-bling.

too many rocks sucked in I guess.

maybe time to start looking for another, or consider e-finish of the edges.

i ran the 12/15 on a 61x 701 boat, and it felt good, great bottom snap ( stock engine, westcoast head, and coffman pipe - so a WEAK 61x)

Really. The numbers are meaningless between different impellers. They can be applied only for comparing the same type of impeller.
Hub diameter, impelller diameter, blade surface area, and angle (pitch) all play equal parts in the game.
