Super Jet Skat-Trak 12/17 wont fit on 144 drive shaft

I've searched the thread for similar topics but didn't find much. I needed a new impeller, badly. I purchased a used (possibly the first mistake) 12/17 skat-trak swirl. it took 3 guys, two breaker bars and a 30mm Kobalt wrench to get the 12/18 off the drive shaft. Threads are somehow perfect. installing the new 12/17 swirl, the impeller fastens/locks to the pump and will not allow the shaft to spin, at all. I was told it came off a 91 SN with a 144mm. I have a 93' so I'm wondering if I'm missing something, a spacer, washer or anything. How are the pumps different? Skat tech line doesn't open for questions until 3pm tomorrow for me, here in the midwest, but I'm pretty impatient as it is. Any ideas? here are a few pictures next to an old stock impeller.

My bet is that you've got a 140mm impeller from a Skat mag. So, first of all, take the impeller off the shaft and hold it into the wear ring, and push it to one side. Look at the gap on the other side. If there's approx a 1mm gap (or less, ideally) between impeller blade and wear ring, then you've got a 144mm impeller. If there's more clearance than that (like 5mm) then you've got the wrong impeller.

Next, there should be a washer covered in rubber "under" your impeller, it sits into a ring on the pump (but doesn't sit flush). It might still be there, and you didn't realize it because it can look like a bearing seal.

If that washer is there, and you have a 144mm impeller, and it still binds to the pump, then your new impeller was probably cut back...and cut back too far for your pump. You'll need some extra spacer washers to get it away from the pump. Although honestly, from your pic, it does NOT look cut back to me.

From the back of the impeller, measure from the inside seating face (the inside bore face) down to the first thread...a non-cut back will measure about 7mm (at least on a Skat C+75 swirl it does...the "+" means 144).

There should be no difference from a '91 to '93 pump as far as I know...

I don't have a washer under the impeller. The .020" is correct as far as I can tell. At this point ill be looking for a spacer/washer unless skat has some solution.

mloe I sold you that prop on ebay, There is supposed to be a washer under your impeller and above the two pump seals. That prop is a standard skat-trak impeller 12/17 freeride there is nothing special or wrong about it. Check to make sure when you took off the old one you didnt push the driveshaft back into the pump. Is the cone taken off? that may be your problem, re install the pump cone so the driveshaft is seated correctly and the prop should fit just fine with the thrust washer underneath it. mike

The pump cone was taken off. It has been reinstalled and the stock impeller and the skat 10/18 that was previously installed. both spin correctly. I don't know how the cone affects the fitment, but I'll try everything. This one cinches to the pump. None have a thrust washer.

I ran into this with a Hooker prop recently, I had to install another washer behind the impeller to straighten it out, Skat is the one casting the Hooker impellers so this does apply here.

Happened to me with a brand new 140 mag impeller, needed two washers. Skat's QC is asleep at the wheel.

Look at the pics in post #9 of the thread I've linked below...it shows the stock washer. If you don't have that, you should...again, check your pump to make sure it's not there (like in the first pic of post #9, it looks like it's part of the pump).

It's good to know if you are looking for that stock washer, or if you need an additional stainless washer or something. So, I wanted to show that to you for reference.

Either way, send a PM to JetManiac on here and tell him what you need. Chris will get it to you the fastest.

That's exactly what I'm missing. I've dealt with Jet Maniac a few times before. I think i've replaced everything on this ski but the waterbox, fuel tank and this pump. He's been extremely helpful. I appreciate all your help and mrfixitman760 for the impeller. I'm just glad it seems to be a cheap fix.
