Super Jet SJ650 with 500$ worth of upgrades or stock SJ700?

Have an opt to buy a stock 91 650 for 1300 or a stock 91 700 for 1800. Question is would I be better off paying the extra now for the 700 or dumping 500$ into the 650?

you are correct sir, first year stock 701 was 1994. Maybe the OP was implying the it was a 91 hull with a stock 701 transplant.

i know i'm correct and when i see $hit like that i always assume something is fishy. a 650 and a 61x may look the same to the untrained eye, so watch out.

I bought my '90 advertised as a 650. Turned out to have 650 cases bored for a 62T cylinder, was 701.
Since then I have switched to all 61x 701 but you never know what is under the hood til you look.

Is there a way to tell a 650 from a 701 engine?

the ID plate on the intake will say 6m6 for 650 and 61x for 701. i'd bet it is a 650. also between the cylinders on the exhaust side 61x for 701.

Looks to me on the intake manifold it says 61x. Which is a 701.
Plus that setup has a Coffman pipe. Which is better than stock

The engine has a tag on it that says j 700b. So 701?

thats an easy decision since it is a 701 and has a coffman pipe. you said they were both stock which i might not give $500 more for a 701 (would depend on condition).

probably has an aftermarket impeller as well.
