SJ Taking on Water

I took my new (to me) '90 SN for a ride today and it took on about 5 gallons in 1.5 hours :banghead:
I noticed the factory bilge line does not have the pinhole-elbow vacuum break in it.
Will this cause the ski to take on water? Where can I get one?
Or are SJs just seives that like to drink a lot?
My Kawi is usually dry as a bone at the end of a ride
Thanks!

If it had 5 gallons in it at the end of a ride then your bilge pump isn't working at all. I don't think mine has the pin hole either? But I can't remember it has been a long time since I installed dual cooling and got rid of that syphon line.

Also did you tip the ski over. They are prone to drinking water if they are on their sides very much

Ya check the bilge pump. That would be the only reason that water would be in there. I know there is a Rule in the ski you bought from kurt so make sure that it is working properly.

forgot to turn on the electric bilge pump. when i got it on the trailer and saw the water, I ran the pump and most of it went overboard
never had one before in the Kawi so I didnt think of it while riding
dumped it and swam a time or two, but was conservative due to cold water temps.
does the factory bilge in the SJs do much of anything?

weird, my WR500 with a HOLE in one foot well would stay drained once I fixed the factory bilge system.
it was clogged with fine gravel at the ride plate.
figured the SJ would work about the same

Remember, the hoses go above the water line, then back down and out for the factory bilge. Mine works like a champ.

Make sure you're not taking water in at the intermediate housing. Superjets love to do that.

I think the factory bilge does a great job for it being factory.

Dry the engine compartment out completely and then put the ski in the water on the trailer and pull the factory bilge pump hose off at the pickup and hold in down in the water you should see the water suck up the hose while the ski is running. And while it is in the water look around in the engine compartment and see if there is any water coming in.

That thing should have been completely dry if you rode that last 100 yards to the dock without falling in.

just go ahead and ditch the factory syphon and put in two 500gphs....just get it done....needs to be done.

Also yes...squares take on a little more water esp compared to RNs. The facotry intakes on top of the hood are a huge reason for that and then theres also inlets in the front.

it only filled with water while sitting, so i think the missing bilge vacuum break will fix it
if not I will check coupler, exhaust, etc. no real obvious leaks while idling in water
thanks!

No brainer then. Its the intermediate housing or your drain plugs or the bow eye is leaking somehow.
