SJ not starting

Last weekend my SJ started running a little rough, and was hard to start. Eventually it wouldn't start at all. This all happened within 10 minutes. I was getting spark, but that's all I could check at the time.

The motor is a 61x/61x with a Wetjet 46mm carb and intake. Stock electronics advanced a few degrees. When I got it home I changed the plugs, and was still getting spark. Checked the compression, and it was fine. It would crank fine, but never even came close to turning over. I took the intake off to check the reeds, and they were okay. I took the flywheel off to make sure the stator hadn't loosened up and screwed up the timing. It was a mess in there. :banghead: Bunch of oily residue. So either the crank seal or the stator cover is leaking. The crank seal 'looked' okay. I'm gonna to a leak down test as soon as I find the plates I made before, and clean up the stator.

Would an air leak keep it from turning over? Would the gunk on the stator screw up timing enough to not start?

Forgot to mention that. I dumped a little fuel down each cylinder when I thought it was the reeds or carb. Still nothing. It should've ran for a couple seconds. Now that I say that I'd guess the timing is messed up by the gunked up stator.
