single vs. twin carb

how much of a benefit is there with going to a twin carb (38's) setup from a single (44) on a stock 61x? bpipe, new 35cc head, total loss, solas prop all in the mix. do u need to increase the bore to maximize the use of greater fuel delivery? what's a good combination of increased bore size with larger carbs if that IS the ticket?

sorry boys...got off my lazy arse and did some thread searching AFTER the post...found some of my answers, but the need for larger bore to utilize more fuel would be good info.

There is no benefit (going from dual 38's to a single 44), other than spending more money than the 38's are worth.

Wait, that's not a benefit either.

I don't think they're too much, but you probably won't see appreciable gain (on a stock cylinder)

Stock 38's are pretty good for a stock cylinder.
People say buy dual 44's when you get a deal so your intake tract is ready for a ported cylinder when you get around to it.

i think it would too, and have been playing with the idea of running the dual 38's steve has kicking around on another buddy's 61x/61x. i love dual carbs, its like twice as good as a single. think about it...lol.

I didn't see it was 61X cases.

Says standard 61X motor. I take that to mean T cases, especially since dual 38's are mentioned.
Just in case we're talking X cases, stay with a single.

From what ive heard dual are harder to tune and more for top end. And singles are simple easy to tune and are for throttle responce and quickness. I think that I would go with dual because they also look cooler to me than the single.

And I assure you, that's hogwash.

Tuning duals means tuning two carbs vs tuning one. But both carbs are done in unison, it just takes a bit longer.

You do have to turn each individually, but how much harder is turning two screws 1/2 turn each vs one screw 1/2 turn? :dunno:
 
What about modifying the 38s. That should flow more than a single 44 . I remember all the top limited superjets in expert division in 94 and 95 all using at least dual 44s

yeah...i was thinking of putting a twin 38 setup on my 61x ski with the above mods, but not if it isn't going to make an appreciable gain over my single 44. i don't need another headache if tuning twins is a PITA. I'd love to get everything done i can (for freestyle) without getting the cylinder ported.
 
Your best bang for the buck would probably be to go with a bigger single carb - i.e. the Wetjet setup (46 SBN w different intake) or some other larger single.

I have a Wetjet 46 and a Riva Powerbomb 48, both will be available soon if you're interested.

i've got 61x cases...i'm interested in a new carb seems like staying single is the best bet 4 me. Now will increasing carb size and model make a noticable diff without doing some cylinder work?
