Some use grease on the rubber seals, some say replace the OEM seal.

I'd use silicone, not like you can't cut it with a razor to unstick it in the future if needed.

Replace those OEM screws while your at it, use stainless

yeah I agree clear silicone

I personally would never use silicone... I try not to re use the gasket either.

Is taking the chance of water getting in your ebox really worth not buying a new gasket??? A +- $10 gasket vs. +- $300 electrical box worth of components.

Just buy a new gasket. If your gonna do it, do it right in my opinion.

The gasket costs something like 11 bucks and change.
You can reuse it a couple times as long as it didn't get over-tightened.

even then it has already gotten all the grooves worn into it from the first compression, and if you don't get lined up exactly as before, your still taking that small risk of water intrusion. Of course its a personal choice as what to do, but for riding in the surf, I would recommend nothing less.

I used red RTV on mine. I put a light bead on each side of the gasket as it went back together. I was not taking any chances as mine was full of water when I pulled it apart.

another common way for water to get into the box is from the top where the two red wires pass trough the grommet. The wires on some can tend to be pulled too far either left or right, thus opening up the seal between the wire and grommet. Silicone on the inside or new grommets can fix that problem.

NO!
Buy a new $12 gasket.

I got some extra stainless screws that don't strip easy like OEM if anybody wants some.
