Shortening the FX1

I'm planning an FX1 build, and i'm trying to plan out some hull mod ideas that i've read about on here.
My goal is to have a tossable freestyle boat, making it easier to pull off backies and rolls on the flat etc.
One modification that looks feasible is shortening the rear of the hull.

I've debated about also shortening the front and rebuilding the rocker, but I think that may exceed my velocity.

So back to the back... I've been admiring the FS-X by Rickter and i'm thinking of doing something similar with the pump, although not as extreme.

It seems like retaining the rear rideplate mounts would be the biggest issue.

Does anyone have any input or pictures of this?

Big motors cost money! I can mod the hull for a hundred bucks or so. It'll have a decent motor in it.

I'm suprised that more people arn't chiming in on this. Does anyone know of a build where this has been done?

Widen it with Tubbies? or just add more surface to the bottom by flareing the sides?

Like I said, i'm trying to build something that emulates the qualities of the new Rickter XFS. Perhaps i'm naive, but seeing them pull flatwater backies with a stock 701, it gives me hope that a 95hp 701 in a shortend FX would get close.
Hell even if I can't loop it, wouldn't shortening it make it that much more tossable? Easier to do rolls, stabs etc???

I have the winter to make this hull kickass. Maybe I should just start a new thread. "Hull mods to make my FX1 kickass" LOL...

A/M hulls are usually lighter, and purpose built. Shortening your hull will go a long way toward your goal. A lot of progress has been made in this area, but the path seems difficult and frustrating. Do your research and build. If you succeed, it will give me hope. I would think big bottom end power and big pump would be first on the list. I hope you make it bro.

I started a new thread in the FX1 section. Big pump is happening period.

I keeping going back to SuperjetBrett's build on here. Yes I know he stuck a friggen 1000 in it.. but still, what a kickass hull he made.

His build would be an excellent place to start for ideas about where and how to slice up a FX. It is an awesome build. I would be too leery of butchering up my ski to go that radical. The results speak for themselves. Big hull mods require big skills. I have access to them, I just don't posses them. They are NOT cheap. All I could afford hull mod wise was Tubbies & Pump mod. Now I'm on to the motor build. I have tried to keep my expectations low, so I can be pleasantly surprised.

I would find a squarenose bottom and modify that to fit. Plus add rocker to it. The FX knives through the water, not so much on top of it. You need much more surface area.
I would think you would be better off starting with a fresh bottom than trying to graft on to what you have.

after riding bretts ski. you need more surface area. the ski will jump and get insane distance, but the pop isn't quite there. i'm 255ish and i can ride bretts ski fine. it has to be 18" shorter then my octane.

One thing about modifying FX1's that I always thought of as being over looked, is the very end of the ski. Both ends are diagonal (where the exhaust comes out). A superjet is straight like the rear bond rail. I truly believe that if you were to add material to the back, and make it straight like the rail above it, I am confident the ski would track better.

Also, I would cut around the entire bond rail (just the part that comes down) and add material to the bond rail to the part that comes out (to make them really wide). Rickters are like this...

Check out some retro fish surfboards and look at the shape of the board. Its wide up front and gets smaller as it get to the back of the ski. Get some tubbies and add a bunch of material to make them wider and longer.

I honestly wouldn't do any of these things, but it would be cool to see someone do it. Food for thought...

Tom suggested something similar in my other thread. He said he planned on making the horizontal part of the bond line in the rear 2.5" wider over all to make it more stable, and cut off the vertical part. I like the idea, but i'm curious how far towards the front you transistion that width.

I like some of your ideas, I'll let the cat out of the bag a little.. Tom has a lot of good ideas for the fx1's. Keep you eyes open on tom's stuff :ugh:
