This is what I have on order... hope I didnt get the wrong thing... will this get me what I want? I also have UMI 0 degree bars on the way, and the ODI rough grips. I plan on shortening the stock poll 4" too.

Is UMI steering system for the superjet the same mod as a shortened turnplate? Just maybe better?

A UMI Steering system replaces the stock system with a bearing assembly and a turnplate that bolts to it.

A shortened turnplate builds on that - it uses the same bearing assembly and just replaces the standard UMI turnplate.

So you can't really say that a UMI steering system is "just maybe better" than a shortened turnplate.
You need a UMI system (Or similiar) for a shortened turnplate.

Disclaimer: there are homemade exceptions

So if you get the shortened turnplate do most guys still shorten the pole 4 inches too? I think I'll get the umi steering system, and then get the shortened turnplate from x-metal or blowsion -- then sell the regular umi turnplate... think this is a good solution? the umi steering system was like $175 then the turnplate looks to be like $50. Blowsions bearing kit doesnt look to have all the parts that the kit shown above has...

This is what I meant by go with xmetal and bearing kit only.

Its a good way to shorten 3" without cutting. Then you can always cut later.

Plus his bars are wide and badazz. His plate puts straight bares directly at the pivot bolt on the UMI.

By the way TBM is the other bearing kit.

Cancel that order and go UMI or TBM bearing kit with X metal short/straight.

Where can I pickup the UMI bearing kit with all the parts needed for the x-metal setup? Will the bar clamps be included? Or is this something I need to get from like blowsion or somebody....

I see blowsion sells a bearing kit, but have no idea of the brand/quality... I would like the UMI steering kit... just without the turnplate... hopefully cheaper than 175 or I will just buy the whole kit and sell the turnplate.

nah, I would like to go with the easy way... not really that short on cash, but dont wanna spend extra time selling the UMI plate if I can find a kit that has everything but that... I just want the x-metal setup like madmat said and then a kit with all the bearings and stuff to make it work... I am guessing I will have to buy the bar clamps seperate...I am also guessing I will have to shave some off the stock chin pad, or mount it different so it doesnt overhang....

The xmetal should come with bar clamps. Waterdawg sells a total kit for 220 with bearings, plate, bars, and clamps, basically everything you need for it, but it says out of stock on their website. Maybe you could try calling, but I doubt there is any big difference between the xmetal and WDK, the look almost the same. http://www.waterdawgkustomz.com/proddetail.php?prod=TURNSRT_UMI&cat=5 there is the bars/plate, but on the main SJ page it shows a steering system for 220 but says out of stock, but who knows how often the site is updated.

I would rather do a UMI setup but use the x-metal bars/plate. If anyone knows someone that sells the UMI kit minus the turn plate or a setup with equal quality please let me know. I am fixed on those xmetal bars/plate setup for sure. I just need that parts that make it work!

Thanks for the info though!

The waterdawg is virtually the same...they make very good stuff. The kit with the bearings has the UMI bearing kit. It is exactly what you want other than being xmetal, but there really isn't a big difference (if any at all), it is equally as good.

I emailed waterdawg kustomz with the question about that kit being out of stock. I hope to hear back from them sometime... If they are out of stock I will need to find someone who sells the kit to make the xmetal bars/turnplate work. To you guys that are running that setup... where did you get your kit to set it up?

Yea WDK is nice too and same thing really.

I can't remember who sells just UMI bearing kit with no plate. Someone I'm sure.

I have had good luck with Tom at hot products/Worx USA.

Honestly the TBM bearing with X metal would be the BEST answer IMO.

TBM sealed bearing kit from Hot Products part #TBM126. Looks FAR superior to me.

I get my stuff from Tom.

When you get an aluminum poll and poll bracket, do you normally get a different hood? I want to ride on the hood and do fountains and stuff, and it looks like the poll will sit lower than the hood if you change it out. I wont be changing polls or bracket for a while, but I would like to know for future reference. Thanks for the help. -Eric

I ordered the X-metal shortened turnplate and silver bars yesterday. Also on order from Paul at LPW is the UMI bearing kit. I didnt care which bearing kit I got, and Patrick at xmetal was not sure about the TBM kit working, so I just got the UMI kit. I'm sure it will work great. Thanks for the help/advice guys.
