So i have a guy from Denmark who wants to buy my ski. what do you guys think. like i told him that i obviously would wait till the check completely cleared before i would even think about shipping this thing. anyone have any experience with this? What do you think i should do?

Thanks,
Shane

Sell it.

I deal with overseas customers all the time..mainly with motors. Many pretty high dollar sales...never a single issue! I personally prefer bank transfers...that way the money is deposited straight into your account and there really isn't any way they can screw you over.

I have been screwed once on selling a motor across sea's. I had him paypal and i shipped the motor once it cleared to Sweden. A month later he said it never showed up and filed a paypal claim. Paypal sided with him and i lost the motor and money. It was only a 550 and was 300 plus shipping which was like another 300 to ship. So all in all i was out like 900.

From what i was told, since after a package leaves U.S. it can't be tracked by usps so i had no way to know if it showed up.

I'm not saying don't do it because i was screwed but be careful. I have shipped alot over sea's with no issues, but that one deal put a bad taste in my mouth and makes me think twice if i don't know the guy or can see some kind of feedback on him.
Good luck with the sale

see that is the thing he only has one post and i am keeping my distance but i told him that i am going to add 100 buck on the sale price for my time and gas money.

What gets me is that i am selling a 1990 650sx with mods done to it for 900 and he said he can't find them for anything under 2000 in denmark. Is this true?

This is why I recommend you only deal with a direct bank transfer on larger items. I have taken paypal on large items going overseas, but not without making sure I take all precautions. And in those instances, I only ship FedEx and have a full tracking up until the time the receiver signs for it.

Very much so...Skis overseas typically sell for up to 3x more than what they do over here. I shipped two motors just this week and the customers paid more for the motors than the complete ski would have sold for here...and they were plenty happy.

As far as shipping a ski overseas...thats another story. I personally don't know if I would even bother going through the hassle for $900.

It would need to be put on a pallet and you will need to find a business locally that specializes in shipping large items. You can check with fedex and see if they would do it...but you are probably looking at more than what its worth to ship it.

I thought I'd might chime in, being on the receiving end of overseas parts sales.
Prices on skis in Europe are higher. You'd pay $3000 for a decent SN Superjet in Sweden.
Use bank transfer to be safest ( I prefer Paypal as a buyer). USPS customs declaration number ACTUALLY works as a tracking number in Sweden. As soon as the box arrives in customs, the information is on the usps.com and Posten.se (Swedish Postal Services) web sites. In Sweden titles are not needed, not sure about Denmark. Try finding a company that deals with moving and such, DHL and the likes charges an arm and a leg for their services.

DOnt worry about nothing. I am an "overseas" buyer and buy stuff from US all the time - evven big things such as 4 tec motors.

What you do get him to transfer the money to your bank account - you will need to provide transfer details (IBAN number, etc.)

The title - usually what you will need is to send an agreement signed by you an him about the sale - via post. Lower the value on the agreement - your customer wuill be happy to pay less customs taxes.

Shipping - I always use USPS express - cheapest but not sure whether USPS will take something as bulky as a ski. Forget about UPS or DHL - it will cost a fortune - maybe buyer can provide a national shipper oerating in the US.

Good luck.

a ski will have to be shipped via freight.usps will not handle that.
bank transfers are easy.just ask your bank for the required info.there will be fees associated with the transaction for both the sender and the beneficiary but will vary with banks.
odds are the buyer will change his mind once he sees the shipping cost double or triple the purchase price.
the title is easy. get a bill of sale just like in the US with all pertinent info and send a copy of with the ski.the original you send fedex to buyer.
you'll find most overseas buyers to be more honest than the local yocal!
